Predator: Badlands star Elle Fanning came to Comic Con in Givenchy. We’ve been doing this gig long enough (19 years as of last week) that we can track social and cultural shifts in the topics we’ve traditionally covered. Probably one of the least important of these shifts is the dress code for San Diego Comic Con. There was a time, many years ago, when an actress showing up to SDCC in Givenchy would have been seen as a poser who doesn’t know how to dress for the crowd at hand.

But over the last two decades, Comic Con went from being strictly a nerdfest into more of a pop culture branding convention. It’s fine if any star wants to show up in an X-men t-shirt or even in their favorite cosplay, but there’s not much of a backlash anymore against actors showing up all fancy. Besides, this look isn’t exactly grandiose. Without the bra top and the neon pumps, it would have been downright generic. It’s not our favorite of her looks, although we like how she’s not doing her usual princessy fashion, but it’s inoffensive and works for her. We can’t say the shoes are to our tastes, however.
