And now, a literal study in contrasts. 28 Years Later stars Jodie Comer and Aaron Taylor-Johnson came to the New York fan event, but only one of them understood the assignment.
Stylists, if you’re reading this, let us help you out here with a little bit of advice regarding the wearing of black on a red carpet. We’ll make it easy by turning it into a little rhyme:
If the venue’s LA, you’re a-okay, but it it’s in New York, you’ll look like a dork.
LA red carpets are bright, colorful, sunny events with backdrops designed to show off whatever glamour you’re sporting. New York red carpets are dark, sullen affairs where everyone smells like cigarettes and quotes French philosophers all the time. Or at least, that’s the general vibe. Given the poorly lit “hotel lobby” vibe of a lot of red carpets in New York (because sidewalk red carpets are nearly impossible to mount there), stylists should really make it a matter of course to put there clients in something that will photograph well in that setting. We realize that “New York style” is almost always reduced to the wearing of black by the unimaginative, but you’re paid to be better than that. Put her in something pink.
Aaron knows the score, right down to his feet. As fashion, this is all perfectly fine, but as branding and promotion, it’s just plain smart because you can actually see him.
