We’ll always be grateful for Lupita sighting and as soon as these pics came up, we re-arranged the posting roster just to throw them up and talk about them. She came to the Broadway opening night of Buena Vista Social Club, a new musical based on the documentary and album highlighting old-school Cuban music, in a dress we don’t exactly love, but feels kind of right anyway.
First, it’s bold and colorful and has a dancefloor-ready feel to it, so you could see this as a type of theme-dressing that avoids being literal about it. The colors look fantastic on her and we love the print. Now comes the hate, we’re sorry to say. That bell-shaped skirt has become awfully trendy of late and we have yet to see a version we love. It distorts the body’s proportions and the construction underneath always seems to be a little too evident, since no one’s wearing slips with their modern crinolines. Speaking of construction, there’s evidently an issue with the bodice because it’s in danger of collapsing on her. And finally, she never quite mastered the shoe thing. Matching one of the colors isn’t a bad idea, but she chose the worst one to match. Gold metallics would have been fun.
