That’s right, kittens! Your manly hosts had so much red carpetry upon which to opinionate this week, that we have a genuine, bona fide, for real rundown of unjudged looks for you to get to. Help us clean out our folders for the week before we hit happy hour, won’t you?
Adrien Brody and Georgina Chapman (in Marchesa)
No problems here, as far as we can see. He keeps his fashion impeccable but a little boring. It’s a nice dress – and a far cry from Marchesa’s much more exuberant days – but we’re not loving the color.
Andrew Scott
The jacket’s okay and the shoes are pretty nice, but it looks like he’s wearing a jumpsuit, which prompts us once again to note that he gets some of the worst styling advice of any celebrity man currently working. Nothing he wears in public actually suits him.
Anna Kendrick
Yuck. What a cheap-looking frock.
Antonio Banderas
This is excellent DadStyle and the colors look great together.
Ashanti in Fjolla Haxhismaji
She looks squeaky, like a balloon.
Benedict Cumberbatch
We’ve spent years telling celebrity men that they don’t have to wear suits on the red carpet, but with the current trend toward bro-ing it up on the red carpet, we’re afraid we may have to walk that back. So few of these guys do dressy-casual well, it seems. He just looks like a schlub.
Camila Cabello in Roberto Cavalli
It’s not as horrifically bad as her last effort, but we hate the cutouts.
Gwendoline Christie
Simple, low-key chic, gets the job done. Love the coat, but the pants need a belt.
Gwendoline Christie in Dior
The hair looks great, but whatever it is she’s wearing comes off like a shapeless void.
Jacob Elordi
The pants and shoes are nice, but we’re hating this trend for what looks like shrunken sweaters. His hair is cute.
Jeremy Strong
Nice coat.
Joe Alwyn in Giorgio Armani
We’re sure it’s very expensive, but it absolutely doesn’t look like it.
Lily James in Chanel
The crop top and bare legs look weird with a classic Chanel tweed.
Margaret Qualley in Chanel
This is a lot nicer than the version worn by Felicity Jones this week.
Marianne Jean-Baptiste in Chanel
Perfect.
Marion Cotillard in Chanel
There’s some sort of alchemy at work here, because we normally dislike high boots worn with sleeveless outfits, but she looks amazing. It helps that the boots are ridiculously fabulous and the dress is mostly forgettable.
Marion Cotillard in Chanel Couture
Trust the Frenchwoman to snag the Chanels that are fabulous. They’re hard to come by these days. This looks great, but we could do without the Kleenex sleeves.
Marisa Tomei in Chanel
It’s okay, but we don’t think the style calls for a flared pant.
Nicola Coughlan in Simone Rocha
The shape is weird and those luggage straps are horrifying.
Robert Pattinson
Hello, 1997. We’ve missed you.
Saoirse Ronan in Louis Vuitton
The color’s great, but the style strikes us as too retro and a bit too severe for her. The fit in the bust looks painful.
Sydney Sweeney in Giorgio Armani
The dress is fine but she’s in dire need of some diamonds.
Tessa Thompson in Chanel
We can’t even begin to tell you how much of our red carpet coverage lately consists of us peering at pictures and going “What exactly am I looking at?” The looks are getting too dark and complicated, people. Let’s keep it bright and simple! It’s possible we’re talking about things other than fashion at the moment. Still, we’d like this a lot more without the gloves and with a pair of shoes that popped a little.
