At the Sundance Film Festival, Wicked star Cynthia Erivo returned to a slightly witchy style after abandoning most of her Elphaba cosplay after the film opened. Maybe her recent Oscar nomination has her thinking she needs to get back to it. Or maybe she’s just working a simple basic black.
Either way, it’s working for us. We get that the film’s branding settled on a pink vs. green theme for the promotional work, but that always seemed odd to us because of the imbalance. One color referred to a character’s style preferences and the other one referred to a character’s skin color. We probably would have complained about it regardless, but we always thought the Elphaba-themed outfits should’ve been black, not green. She’s toned down the jewelry considerably. If this is a signal as to how she’s going to campaign for her Oscar, we approve.
