Natalie Portman, post-divorce, is clearly in her short dress era. The star of Lady in the Lake stopped by The Tonight Show sporting something of a uniform for her of late: a sleeveless mini-dress and naked sandals.
But like a lot of her style choices, the results feel a little awkward/underwhelming to us. She’s navigating the high fashion world on one of the lowest possible difficulty settings and she can look gorgeous without much effort at all, which means we guess we simply expect things to look better on her than they do. There’s nothing terrible about this, but for such a short little frock, it looks a bit heavy and stiff. We don’t like the shape of the skirt and hem and we hate those thick velvet straps. The sandals are fine, but like so many of her shoe choices, a little dull. At the very least, some sparkle was called for down there. And finally, the ballerina hair just feels wrong with a dress like this.
