Tony Awards 2024: “Purlie Victorious” Star Kara Young in Bibhu Mohapatra

Congratulations to  Kara Young for winning the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play for her role in “Purlie Victorious.” Also, because we’re shallow sorts, congratulations to her for serving a head-turner of a look as she picked up her trophy.

That’s a really tricky color to pull off, but her hair is doing all the work of setting it off beautifully. We love the shape of it and she clearly loves the drama of it. The skirt is gorgeous, but we’re sorry to say that the bodice is overdesigned and extremely puckery due to the different weights of the fabrics. This is more of a stand-and-pose dress than something a real person can move around in. Still, when she’s standing and posing, it really works.
