In a sort of reverse take on theme-dressing, the normally chic and elegant Lupita Nyong’o has been out promoting A Quiet Place: Day One in some very loud clothes. We were a bit distressed to see that insane thing she wore on Jimmy Kimmel Live earlier in the week, but now we see it’s all part of a plan to get tacky with it.

To be fair, this is pretty great, if a little bit flashier than her norm. We suppose the mainstream appeal of this film is inspiring this unusually aggressive style approach, or maybe it’s in response to panic about the summer box office, but the lady is coming out hard for this one. Anyway, we think it’s notable that she’s sporting all that fringe and we, anti-fringeists that we are, don’t hate it all. In fact, she looks pretty great here.

But oof, this one’s a little harder to love. The dress is a slip. A tacky slip. The styling is doing a lot to elevate the look, although we don’t think it was all that great an idea to put her in leopard print shoes. In related news, he looks pretty great here.
