A trio of English roses came out for the extremely romantic Erdem runway show inspired by the Duchess of Devonshire at Chatsworth House. The folks at Erdem chose wisely when they plopped Keira Knightley, Jenna Coleman and Gugu Mbatha-Raw in the front row in one of their signature old-school romantic frocks. No one came off badly here, which is increasingly rare in the celebrity arena of the front row, where going viral for wearing clown clothes is more popular than just showing up pretty.

HAVING SAID ALL THAT… we don’t actually love this one. Take away all of the black sheer and it would be more than fine. In an attempt to make a pretty and romantic dress look a little edgy, they just obscured the pretty and romantic parts – literally.

It’s extremely retro, but it looks great on her. We could have done without the big ruffle at the hem, but that print works fantastically with her coloring.

We won’t deny that this print looks vaguely bedsheety to our eyes, but she’s so well suited to it and the dress as a whole that we can’t get hung up on it. As noted, this is what you sign up for when you opt for Erdem, old school feminine romanticism. Our only quibbles: the lip color and the shoe choice don’t strike us as the best ones for this dress, which asks for light and delicate styling choices.
