Meta Gala 2024: Nicole Kidman in Balenciaga: IN or OUT?

Nicole Kidman told the press that she was inspired by the night’s theme to “reawaken” an old Balenciaga design and that this dress was based on a 1951 Balenciaga design made famous by an iconic Richard Avedon photograph. We realize even including that information is probably weighting the vote heavily in favor, but the original dress had a certain lightness and elegance to its proportions. We’re not entirely sure this one doesn’t look like something exploding out from under her skirt. The black portion is a little too voluminous and front-loaded and we’re not in love with the train effect either. Basically, it was better when the skirt was much smaller and the hem a little higher. We also tend to think the white gloves cheapen the look a bit. We guess we answered our own question, but we’re still going to ask you to make the final call. We think the proportions are odd. Convince us otherwise or tell us we’re brilliant and correct once again.
