The celebrity red carpet pickins during this liminal period between the Cannes Film Festival and the summer movie blockbuster season are as slim as we predicted, but fortunately for us, Daisy Ridley wore something extremely discussable. The star of Young Woman and the Sea stepped out onto the red carpet for the London premiere in the exact opposite of a simple, light summer frock.
You want to hear something crazy? We love it – the whole look, right down to those high-vamp pumps we tend to hate. We think the look works because the dress is in such a relatively demure, retro style, which prevents it from coming off like fetishwear. The slightly counterintuitive shoe choice also helps to lend the look a pretty chicness by tamping down on the tendency to go hard in the styling for a dress like this one. We don’t know… it just works for us, including the wet hair.
