We gave Taraji and Dua the spotlight treatment and now it’s time to round up the rest of the folks at the Time100 Gala – or the ones we’re interested in covering, at any rate – and tell them exactly what we think of their style choices.
Billy Porter in Yohji Yamamoto
We’d been saying for a while that he needed to dial back a little bit on the drag – not because we wanted him to adopt a more straight and narrow style, but because it was getting loud and tacky instead of thoughtful and boundary-pushing, which is where we think his style sweet spot lies. This is a perfect example of the kind of look we envisioned for him; modern, strange, gender-nonspecific, and vaguely ministerial in tone. He looks great. We love this direction for him.
Colman Domingo in Casablanca
The suit is gorgeous, although the asymmetrical edge of the jacket makes our eyelids twitch. We can’t say we love the turtleneck or the footwear.
Da’Vine Joy Randolph in Elisabetta Franchi
This is gorgeous and the fit is superb. We’re not as opposed to beiges and neutrals as much as we sometimes sound. We just want them to look photogenic, flattering, and red-carpet-ready. We love how she’s kept her post-awards season wardrobe as formal and grandiose as ever.
Dev Patel
Can’t argue with that.
Fantasia Barrino in Mônot
Head-to-toe stunning. The walking-away is flawless. She never looked this good on a red carpet.
Jack Antonoff
Virtually no effort whatsoever.
Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos
He looks great, but her whole ensemble seems more than a little mature for her.
Kylie Minogue in Elie Saab
We’ll never get mad at this diva for working a little disco magic in her style, but that bust is a weird and distracting design.
Maya Rudolph in Gabriela Hearst
The design is interesting, although we’d have liked the skirt in a jewel tone rather than white. Love the earrings.
Patrick Mahomes and Brittany Mahomes (in Sau Lee)
He looks pretty great, but her top is horrible; tacky and poorly lined.
Uma Thurman
The color looks amazing on her. We don’t mind the unusual shape, but it feels like an unresolved part of the design; like it was supposed to go somewhere but they gave up trying.
