And now for something fabulous. We’ve always loved Isabelle Huppert’s style, which tends to be bold and expressive, ranging from classic French chic to the most outrageous Hollywood-level glam. For the Berlinale premiere of her film, A Traveler’s Need, she opted for a combination of both.
We are deep into a boot-and-dress trend right now, and she is a lady who always comes of well-acquainted with the trends. That green looks amazing on her (it’s evidently a motif color in the film). As for the boots, they’re so counter-intuitive that we’re surprised to admit how much we like them here. The question of whether you can wear boots with modern gowns was answered at least 30 years ago (and probably at every VMAs since) when standard Doc Martens started becoming a formalwear go-to. Certainly, the country music queens have been doing fine with the combination for a half-century or so. When it comes to their appropriateness here, we’re just quibbling over the details. We think the combo is fun and bold but we also think it’s very specific. In other words, it works here, but it probably wouldn’t work in a lot of other instances. We’re not in love with the hair and makeup but it’s so very “editor of French Vogue,” which is TOTALLY her style.
