Darlings, can you guess which was the most popular color to wear at the LA premiere of The Color Purple? We bet you can. What’s of minor interest to us is how the almost all of the purples are the exact same shade, which makes us think a call or two went out. Anyway, we had to give non-purple-wearer and star of the film Fantasia her own spotlight post because her ensemble was worthy of it, but honestly, every one of these attendees came prepared to serve.
Alicia Keys in Iris van Herpen
That is pretty damn spectacular. Maybe this is nitpicky of us, but the earrings are a bit much.
Amber Riley in Norma Kamali
She looks gorgeous wearing a dress we don’t love all that much.
Angela Bassett in Gaurav Gupta
This is dramatic and interesting and she looks pretty great in it, but it looks like a total pain in the ass to wear.
Ariana DeBose in LaQuan Smith
Love it. The sheer top is a great touch.
Chloe Bailey in Cong Tri
We appreciate a lined gown, but unfortunately, the lining on this one is kind of bad. The gloves are very bad.
Ciara in Georges Hobeika
That baby is having a party and we’re really happy for it.
Colman Domingo in Louis Vuitton
The color looks great and we’re loving those Prince boots, but the shape of the pants is kind of awful and the crotch tassels are hilariously bad.
Danielle Brooks in Nicolas Jebran
Simply impossible to argue with any of that. She looks amazing.
H.E.R. in Pamella Roland
Gorgeous. Love the ombre effect. It looks a little snug in the bust, but considering there’s no spillover anywhere there or in the side cutout, that’s a damn impressive fit.
Halle Bailey in Off-White
There seems to be a growing trend toward these big-ass old school ballgown skirts. We really like this one, but it bugs that the top and the skirt don’t match perfectly.
Oprah Winfrey in Dolce & Gabbana
Well alright, Oprah! The fit’s a little off, but she looks fantastic. Love the shoe.
Storm Reid in Tony Ward
It’s sexy and relatively low-key, if you can say such a thing about a slit-to-the-hip dress with an open back. The shoe is gorgeous.
Taraji P. Henson in Vlora Mustafa
LOVE this. It’s dramatic and exuberant and practically screams “DIVA!”
Tyler Perry in Tom Ford
That is a gorgeous suit.
