Darlings, a whole bunch of British (and the occasional American) thespians came out for the Evening Standard theater awards and we’re happy to report that a wide range of styles was served. Let’s assess!
Asa Butterfield in Mithridate
It’s a really nice suit, but the white tee and white kicks are starting to look really dated.
Billy Porter in Rick Owens
He’s extremely well-suited to the Rick Owens aesthetic. It’s not to our tastes, but we love that he’s bringing a look like this to the red carpet.
David Tennant in Mithridate
This is… a lot. We appreciate his commitment to bringing some razzle-dazzle to the proceedings. It’s got a real classic “showman” quality that is absolutely correct for him. We love a some sparkle and boldness and shine on the red carpet. We just aren’t in love with that jacket.
Hayley Atwell in Roland Mouret
It’s a somewhat classic, slightly stale design, but the gown looks amazing on her. The pop of color shoe is dead. We’d have told her to pick a metallic. Also, a pendant would be great.
Jenna Coleman in Mithridate
It’s a quietly interesting gown that looks good on you and asks you to look at it a little longer. The design is interesting, but the textile looks like a bedspread.
Sheila Atim in Emilia Wickstead
Beautiful color, horrendous cutout.
Tom Hiddleston (in Ralph Lauren) and Zawe Ashton (in Erdem)
They never fail to look spectacular together. LOVE that subtle green of his jacket. It works so well with the blue of her gown. We’re not in love with the silver embellishments on the latter, although we recognize that the design needed a little something to break it up. Still, she looks great.
