Miss Gabrielle provides with a little bit of a fashion conundrum. On the one hand, she’s Gabrielle Union and she’ll make just about anything look more dazzling the closer it comes in contact with her. On the other hand, if we were to describe this dress out loud to you, we feel you’d be very likely to recoil in offense.
After all, is painted black velvet not universally considered to be a somewhat tacky thing? Sorry to anyone with velvet Jesus or Elvises hanging about, but at best, it’s kitsch. A black velvet dress with a painting of a Roman statue on it sounds like the absolute zenith of Mt. Tacky to us. And yet? Is it possible she’s making this bad idea look amazing? Can it be that the combination of fabulous hair, gorgeous makeup and wisely low-key styling is working to make this frock look unobjectionable, if not actually good? Do you think there’s a chance that this dress is… not bad? Oh, it’s too silly to even consider. But do it anyway:
