HOUSE OF THE DRAGON Star Olivia Cooke covers the latest issue of THE LATERALS magazine photographed by David Urbanke and styled by Jungle Lin.
On the biggest challenge in portraying Alicent Hightower: “She’s a product of the patriarchy who believes in tradition – that a woman’s place is to be by the man’s side, gently whispering into their ear, gently guiding. Hands-free. How do I make that active and not passive? I think that was the challenge, and what I enjoyed was trying to figure out where my empathy lay when you’re acting some morally unsound scenes.”
On the character dynamics with her co-lead Emma D’Arcy: “Because these two characters have such an intense friendship and love for each other, there needs to be that love to burn and set fire to later. In the best-case scenario, I was hoping we would fall in love with each other, and we did. We’ve been each other rocks through this whole wild process.”
