Stars Margaret Qualley and Joe Alwyn hit the Cannes red carpet for the premiere of their film The Stars at Noon looking like toppers for some goth-rockabilly couple’s wedding cake.
You can’t not see it now.
Margaret Qualley in Chanel Couture
We think this is a pretty bad choice of dress for a red carpet because it comes off so drably funereal and unphotogenic. The only way to go with this one is to really lean into goth styling and makeup, but she’s not that girl. She likes her styling low-key to non-existent. Nice earrings, though.
Joe Alwyn in Celine
There’s been a distinct turn toward rockabilly style motifs in male stars lately; lots of pointy boots, bi-colored lapels and string ties in our folders this month. While we struggle with some of those elements, it’s a perfectly fine classic style that rotates back into style every decade or two. We have no problem with stars taking this one out for a spin for a while. He’s doing a very light, very formal version and it suits him pretty much perfectly.
