It took us a long time to figure out how to talk about Michelle Pfeiffer’s public style. It’s simple, really. We should approach it the same way she does, on the terms she set. She clearly loves to keep things simple in her style so we’ll do the same in our assessment of it.
First things first: She’s Michelle Pfeiffer. She looks amazing. She always looks amazing, even when she’s wearing a perfectly fine if not particularly notable ensemble. We wouldn’t say she “rests on pretty,” because we don’t think she likes to think of herself in those terms. It’s more like she doesn’t want to call unwanted attention to herself as an actress. She always looks great but she never looks like she’s looking for the spotlight. That’s how a legend does it. Next thing next:
You really have to catch her in The First Lady. We binged our way through the entire season of screeners and will have much to say about the show in a podcast that will drop early next week (because we’re too wiped out from awards season to do one today -sorry!) before it premieres next Sunday. It’s not a perfect series and a few of the performances don’t work or get bogged down by strange acting choices, but not Michelle. She’s pitch-perfect as Betty Ford and it would be a shame if she didn’t get an Emmy nomination for it. We’ll have much more to say, about everything from the other First Ladies to the costume design to the surprisingly well-stacked cast of supporting actors.
