Trust Miss Janelle to take the question uppermost in everyone’s mind at the Met Gala this year – Is it camp? – and turning it on its head in a totally Janelle-like way.
Can surrealism be camp?
We’ll say this: at some point, you kind of have to accept that the true theme of every single Met Gala is always the same theme: Wear something outrageous. This is simply a stunning, head-turning, look that couldn’t be better suited to her. She’s the queen of red carpet hat-wearing so who better to wear a hat made out of a bunch of hats?
But we think the surrealist art allusions and the consistency of the eye and lip motifs elevate it to something Met Gala appropriate, but the fact that the boob-eye actually blinks (see below) also makes it pretty camp-appropriate.
