It’s got a very retro, sort of “Christmas as the Nixon White House” feel which suits her, even if it is a little stiff. The shoes don’t go.
Jenna Dewan in Reem Acra
A fairly well-executed scrolldown surprise. These tricky jumpsuits can so easily go the other way, but this really works for her. Big kudos on the hem job, which demonstrates that she has feet and which had to have been insisted upon, given how short she is.
Jennifer Garner in Lanvin
Kind of low-key chic but not at all photogenic.
Jessica Alba in Valentino
Very pretty. Her style is much more socialite in nature now that her acting career is back-burnered.
Julie Bowen in August Getty Atelier
Credit for wearing something bold and eye-catching, since so many seemed to have wanted to do the opposite. Whatever’s going on down at the hem doesn’t look so awesome, but the rest of it is pretty great on her. We’d have loved a richer color story, howevs.
Kelly Rowland in Krikor Jabotian
Miss Kelly did not go for the subtle and undramatic. God bless her. She looks like she’s fronting the Supremes. And we don’t mean the witches or the court.
Leslie Mann in Pamella Roland
Really pretty and quietly striking. We don’t love the neckline but we do love that gray-and-beige color story. We’re just not convinced she’s the best person for it.
Olivia Munn in J. Mendel
Why Miss Scarlett. Whatever brings you to our little gala? This is kind of a bit much, but we honestly don’t mind it on her. The shape is enough to make it stand out from the rest of this red carpet, but the color’s what really sells it. It’s exceedingly old-school with a slightly freshened-up feel.
Zoe Saldana in Saint Laurent
Elegant, perfectly suited to her and a little dull for pictures.
Zooey Deschanel
Absolutely super-cute look that feels right for her, feels formal enough for the event, and manages to dress up a pair of black pants in a stylish way without being twee about it. We’re not so sure about the high waist and that knot thing, but it doesn’t seem to overwhelm the look.
