Peter Capaldi, in costume as the Doctor, and Pearl Mackie as his new companion Bill Potts, pose on a 3D alien landscape pavement painting, to celebrate the new TV series season on the Southbank in London.
It’s something of a Who tradition for the Doctor and his latest companion to dress up in character and pose in front of the TARDIS for the press. We’ve covered it several times ourselves.
And the pavement art idea is a good one. Makes for some great shots and couldn’t be a better hook for a London photo call with sci-fi undertones. But… doesn’t this feel a little, we don’t know… low energy somehow? Maybe we’re reading too much into it. Certainly Capaldi was never all that great at publicity, although he tended to put his energy into it back when he talked so much about how thrilled he was to play the character. Both of them will likely be gone with next season’s new show runner (Capaldi definitely), which is a huge part of why we may be reading too much into it, but we hope we’re not in for a lackluster or low-energy season.
