Jesus, Julia. What did we ever do to you? More importantly, what did you do to piss off the photographer?

Riccardo Tisci defended the choice for Yahoo Style:

“For me, Julia is many things,” he told Yahoo Style.”She has this strength as an actress, but she’s also this beautiful American woman. She’s a big star, but she’s not a paparazzi or a blog monster.” The timing is also aligned with his own career milestone. “It’s going to be my 10th year at Givenchy in March, so I wanted to represent the woman who is more mature, beautiful, talented, but also unpretentious.”

Well as a couple of those terrifying blog monsters, we’re here to tell you she’s scaring the shit out of the children, Riccardo. We understand if they were going for some sort of stark, minimalist intensity, but that’s not really Julia’s schtick and it doesn’t make for the kind of ad that you want to stop and look at. More like the kind of ad you flip past quickly because you’re afraid the scary lady is going to eat your soul.
