That’s the first time that hair color’s ever really worked for you, hon. You get to keep it a little longer. So long as you promise to never match the lips to it again, that is.

Cute getup all around, though.

I absolutely love this. It’s adorable and fun, and the edge of the dress and belt are offset nicely by the playfulness of her hair and smile. Also, I think the makeup, while perhaps a little too heavily applied, looks fantastic. I love the eyes.

    • Constant Reader

I’m getting a B-52s vibe from the whole getup that I’m enjoying immensely. I love the ladylike makeup with the edgy hair, and the dress is super cute. I don’t even mind the lipstick matching the hair.

      • Kitten Mittons

Ditto, I love it all. And I’ve been very vocal about hating the purple hair on her. I love it here, and the lips actually work for me. Dress is fab, shoes are OK.

        • lundibleu

Is it a different shade of purple, or just the style and lighting that makes it look different? It looks brighter to me.

Still, I like this, and I think a part of it is that there isn’t a massive mismatch of colours with the hair and the dress – it needs a slightly pared back but funky look to work with the hair and that’s what she got here. :)

          • sweetestsith

It looks much brighter to me as well, usually it looks grey-ish in pictures. I adore this shade!

            • MildredKOuellette

          • Kitten Mittons

I think it is a brighter purple than before. As someone else mentioned, it doesn’t look as grey. Maybe it’s just been touched up recently, but it looks different to me. I love how she styled it, too.

            • lundibleu

Yup, that’s what I was thinking too – I’m sure it looked much more grey or plum coloured in previous pictures. I like this shade better.

          • MilaXX

Pravana just came out with a neon color line. I think this shade of purple may be from that.

            • http://cheekypinky.wordpress.com cheekypinky

Ooo! Or do you think Special Effects’ Wildflower could be a contender?

            • MilaXX

It definitely could be. I just seem to recall her saying she uses Pravana. (I follow a few Pravana boards)

          • KateShouldBeWorking

Different style for sure but I think the upkeep is vastly improved too.

          • http://www.snoskred.org/ Snoskred

I think it is a much darker shade of purple and that is why it works.

Until now she has been walking around with the modern equivalent of a blue rinse for the elderly set. This, this is much better. :)

          • Sobaika

As I’ve learned recently, purple fades like a motherfucker. It looks brighter and less grey because she likely had it dyed the night before.

            • Freynika

I used to wear my hair in all kind of fucked up shades like that. I think the more grey iterations are just from lack of upkeep. This color looks really fresh. If you don’t redo it every couple weeks, it ends up looking like weak Kool-Aid. As for the dresh, I unabashedly love it. Maybe it could use another inch or two on the bottom hem, but I’d love it and wear it to death if it happened to land in my closet.

      • 3boysful

        Rock Lobster! Quiche la Poodle!

      • bitchybitchybitchy

The matchy lipstick is giving me a slight twitch, but aside from that, the dress is sooooo cute, and for once her hair color looks good. Yup-Kelly wins this one.

    • TerryMH

That hairstyle requires a greater commitment than taking care of a newborn.

      • blue808

        Preach!

    • AlexisPayne

Am I the only who hummed the “My Little Pony” song while looking at these?

    • rh33

Very “Judy Jetson Goes Out for Drinks”.

    • ashtangajunkie

This hair is giving me LIFE. The style is fabulous, beautifully executed, and the colour actually works.

      • fursa_saida

She finally got it more saturated! Hallelu.

        • formerlyAnon

YES. That’s it. I kept trying to figure it out. (Getting a clue why no one asks me for style tips?)

    • @Biting Panda

      WHY the matching lips?

      • MilaXX

She and her mother have a joint collection for MAC.

        • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

You know so many things! I get MAC emails regularly and had no idea about that!

          • MilaXX

LOL I am makeup & fashion obsessed! I follow a lot of makeup and fashion blogs. I also have a bit of a rain man memory.

    • JauntyJohn

Apparently she hosted the show, or at least opened it. I channel surfed into it in time to see her say, “Do you like my magic trick? I finally made orange work for me…” in reference to what she was wearing — and frankly I think she did, indeed, look terrific.
Good on ya, Kelly. You’ve got more game than a lot of these second generation spotlight kids.

    • evave2

I think the lipstick is GREAT the way it matches her hair.

Could anybody read the tattoo in her scalp? I got S*T*O*R ____, but I really couldn’t figure it out.

      • Imma Mäder

        I think it says ‘stories’

        • fursa_saida

I was worried it said “stoner,” so let’s go with your thing.

          • demidaemon

I thought I saw stoner too, so I hope I’m wrong.

        • lundibleu

that’s what I got too, though there seems to be another letter in there somewhere.

          • hyperionic

Haha I though it said STORIEST and I was like wut.

            • http://www.readbarbara.com/ ReadBarbara

I did, too! Then I revised my guess to stories.

    • Jennifer Bober

This is a stronger purple than she’s used before and I like it much better. The other one read too grey. I think this is a serious win. The dress is great and the color really pops.

      • The Counselor

Exactly. It looks better because it’s a more declarative color, not that usual musty shade.

      • Adrianna Grężak

I can’t wait for grey hair on 20-somethings to end, such an odd trend.

        • Jennifer Bober

          I know!

    • lynnlee

      She really looks great!

    • deelup

      WERQ!

      • Imasewsure

If she had just gone with some sort of kick ass shoe, she might have earned it… Attagirl for now I guess

        • SugarSnap108

Yep, the shoes are the only part that doesn’t WERQ.

    • Imasewsure

Love the purple lips (this time only) but those shoes are so unworthy of the rest of this look. BORING SHOES

    • carrie

So sick of the purple hair. But at least hers looks professionally done.

    • The Counselor

She is truly a citizen of the Capitol.

    • Fordzo a.k.a. Fancy Mukluks

How does her hair look so healthy and shiny and soft?! It’s got to be processed all to heck, no? Tell me your secrets, you little grape pixie!

      • fursa_saida

It probably helps that it’s short. The same hair doesn’t get exposed to processes as many times over–it gets cut off before it really has time to get fried.

I don’t know if that fully explains it, but I bet it’s a factor.

        • Verascity

Yeah, I’d guess that’s at least part of it. I dye my hair a lot (albeit not as extremely as this) and it’s very short, so it looks healthy.

      • sweetestsith

She might have good hair texture for dye, I don’t know what magic is involved, but mine is heavily bleached/dyed yet always looks healthy and rarely splits. Cool showers , conditioner, and minimal heat styling ftw! Short hair probably helps too.

      • MilaXX

I believe she uses Pravana colors. Their colors are much healthier for the hair than a regular bleach job and Manic Panic. They have built in keratins that help keep the color healthy.

        • muzan-e

.. making notes for my tween daughter right this minute. She’s been so interested vividly colourful streaks (hair chalk just isn’t living up to our hopes) but I was horrified about the thought of using bleach+Manic on a young girl’s hair.

          • MilaXX

You still need to lift the color. My hair is naturally black. I lifted my hair to a honey blonde color and then used Pravana Chroma silk vivids in Violet. The result is a purpley – eggplant color. The color in my avatar is actually pretty close. I also use the Pravana shampoo/conditioner and the Nevo Intense therapy leave in (also by Pravana). I purchase everything from Amazon. It is not cheap. A jar of Manic Panic is maybe $5, a tube of Pravana is about $13. Leave in, shampoo & conditioner run about $18 -20 each.

      • Adrianna Grężak

For all we know she shaved off the sides of her head b/c there was a bleach/dye mishap!

      • http://redheadedwolf.wordpress.com/ Laura Renee

Does anyone think it might be a wig? I have no idea, just wondering, because it does look so unbelievably perfect and a wig might have been the easiest way to achieve it.

    • FibonacciSequins

Is she intentionally referencing My Little Pony?

    • formerlyAnon

For some reason, the lipstick is the cherry on this sundae for me. I wonder if she (or her stylist) understands why this works so much better than much of what she turns out in? I’m not sure that I do, and I usually am vaguely supportive of her hair.

    • colleenjanel

Even before I got to TLo’s commentary, I was thinking “Oh honey, this is the FIRST TIME this color has worked for you!” I love getting validation at the end of the post!

If she’s going to insist on the color, it has to be an edgy style. Not the Dame Edna ‘dos that she’s been victim to. THIS is how you rock lavender hair!

    • In_Stitches

What lipstick should she use? Nude would look washed out and anything red is out of the question. I guess something in the wine or berry family might work?

      • TwiddlyStun

I was thinking a coral pink in the same depth as the lavender. Wine or berry sounds pretty dark, but it could work with a darker dress.

      • Shawn EH

        Teal.

    • MilaXX

Pretty sure that’s lipstick is part of her MAC collection. I actually like the hair color better with this cut. If you’re going to do a different color, a traditional hair style really isn’t the best way to showcase it. I love the winged liner, the dress fits her well and she’s not wearing Minnie Mouse pumps. I’d say that’s a win for her.

    • marlie

If you’re going to go with pastel-colored hair, you have to do a rocker chic aesthetic. This is a great look for her, although I wish she wasn’t wearing lavender lipstick.

    • Adrianna Grężak

I’m really curious how quickly she’ll dye her hair to something else once her purple-hair contract is up

    • http://tvblogster.blogspot.com Boop

Yes. I approve. Perfect shade of purple for her and love the side shave. She no longer looks like Mrs. Slocum from “Are You Being Served.”

    • Skippymom1

Although I could never pull off that hair, and know of no one that could, I swooned! I LOVE it! The whole look is cute and suits.

    • SophieCollier

I’m surprised at how shiny and healthy her hair looks, for all that she does to it.

    • demidaemon

This whole look actually made me smile, which has not been happening much with the looks lately. So, good on you, Kelly.

    • oldscrumby

I guess she finally got the last coat of that grey primer to set and was able to start slapping on the color. I actually like the matching lips because with the hair and the dress she’s looking like a long lost member of Jem and the Holograms, and I mean that in the best possible way.

    • Jennifer Schiller

Her best look ever in my opinion (not a super hard bar but still). She looks hot and powerful. She still annoys me to an irrational degree, but give her props this is super working.

    • AndieJay

My longing for that dress is deep and wide.

    • frannyprof

Perfect look for her, but the shoes…? Eh…? Not quite right.

    • nannypoo

I love this dress but she does not have the legs for it. Neither do I, but I would be willing to give it a try. My hair, on the other hand, is not purple so it looks a lot better than hers. And if I ever get a tattoo on the side of my head please feel free to slap me.

    • MandyM

This is a personal best for her! I even like the matchy lips and the too short dress! The gorgeous hair forgives it all!

    • Trickytrisha

Heh, she looks rather regal until you get to the feet.

    • CatLady

It’s great except for the lipstick. Light purple lips are way too close to “I’m not getting enough oxygen and need immediate medical attention”.

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

I love her look, and I especially love it that she’s standing under the word “GALAXY”……so very apropos.

    • Judih1

do love this look – from hair to shoes – even though she is on my irrational hate list. I think it is because she is considered a “style icon” which I think is just ridiculous. And she is in the Kim Kardashian school of no talent, but famous anyway

    • cocohall

I think she looks terrific. She is on my irrational “like” list. For some reason, I have a soft spot for her and want her to succeed. Maybe for no other reason than Ozzy is going to need someone to look after him when he is old. This is a great dress for her and her purple hair has never looked better. I do think that she uses wigs some of the time as her hair changes cut and color quite noticeably from week to week on Fashion Police.

      • Bonnie Blue

What makes me smile watching Fashion Police is when Joan Rivers says something so outrageous, even Kelly Osbourne will look away or cover her face. You’d think Kelly’s seen/heard everything from Ozzy, but even Joan can make her cringe/laugh and I think that’s cute. Definitely think the purple looks better with her current hairstyle.

        • cocohall

I know Rivers has people writing some of her jokes, but she still is capable of a good ad lib. That is one of the things that keeps me coming back to the show – the moments where they are genuinely reacting to each other. Individually, I would tire of any of them – but all four are a good combo/facsimile of a family. George and Guilianna are the parents, Kelly is the kid and Joan is the crazy grandma.

    • http://cheekypinky.wordpress.com cheekypinky

      LOVE.

    • siriuslover

It may work here (I suspect mostly because of the cut), but I am soooo over this purple hair thing.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

The only thing about this I don’t quite love is the streaky fake bake on her legs. And actually, I think a bright candy pink on her lips would be better, although the matching doesn’t make me mad.

      • kimmeister

Is that what that is? Her legs are so much darker I had actually thought she had on very sheer black hose, but now I see that it’s just that her legs are in the shade but her face is not.

        • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

In the last shot you can see streaks.

    • http://thishotoldbroad.blogspot.com/ Sara Leigh Merrey

I’d love this if she had a different head. I hate, hate, hate her hair. Alla time. And matching the lips to the hair color was such a stupid thing to do.

    • Sam Smith

I really hate her purple hair, but I will admit she looks great here including the hair.

    • http://fibonaccisequins.storenvy.com/ Danielle

I really love the dress, it’s totally something I would kill to have in my closet. Not ever going to be totally on board with the purple hair.

    • MaggieMae

      Great skin.

    • Shawn EH

I may start actually believing her style advice someday.

    • HeisenbergHattie

Dear Kelly- Pump this well dry while you still can. We’ll let you know when this look has reached it’s expiration date. Until then, have fun. Love- Hattie

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gaby

So, query: how do she, La Tilda, and David Lynch all get their hair to do those amazing swoops? Curling irons? Give me answers, Internet! I need to know.

    • Violentcello

I like the grape Kool-aid roots quite a bit, and the dress really does look great on her.

    • elemspbee

this is great. Futuristic, edgy, and summer apropo. What’s happening with her legs though? yaix.

    • tetisheri

      I really love her hair.

    • PinkyK

She looks great! I agree with you on the lips and the faux hawk/Mohawk is not my fave KellyO hairdo. But it’s good to play and experiment…

    • kimmeister

I’m shocked that she’s pulling off that lip color as well as she is. On me, it would look like I had frozen to death or drowned.

      • suzq

        The rosy cheeks help.

    • Lily

Usually think she goes way over the top with her looks, but this I can get behind. The purple in the mohawk is adorable on her!

    • http://www.readbarbara.com/ ReadBarbara

I was going to say something old and cranky like “I’d never match my lipstick to my hair” then I remembered the late 80s and the brown lipsticks that launched Bobbi Brown’s company and I have to admit, I actually did match my lipstick to my hair. Good on ya, Kelly. You look fab.

    • Michelle Gennari

Yeah I’m not 100% sold on purple hair …but even so why match it to your lipstick? Dress could be a skotch longer. I think it makes her look a little fire-pluggy.

    • kim bunchalastnames

she looks like a really fabulous rooster.

    • Anne

      Poor unfortunate sooooooouls…

    • Nick Pilgrim

OMG, it’s Foghorn Leghorn meets a box of Trivial Pursuit pie wedges.

    • Jacob Bowen

That smile photo makes me internally smile…damn Kelly, you WERQ (accompanied with snaps)!
