IN or OUT: Vanessa Hudgens in Bongo & Badgley Mischka at the 2014 Young Hollywood Awards

Posted on July 29, 2014

We want to hate this – and to be fair, there are objective reasons for doing so, such as the feather purse and the kiss-blowing, to say nothing of the industrial-accident dye job – but are we awful bloggers for mostly digging it?

We don’t know, you guys. It’s breezy and simple; perfect for summer. It looks good on her. Like we said, we don’t like the purse or the hair, and we’re wavering on all the bangles, which collectively look a little cheap, and then there’s the talons. And the wholly out-of-proportion earrings. And too many rings. And of course, the horror that is that hair.

Okay, we hate it now. But we’re still going to give you the opportunity to have your say.

Bitter Kittens make the call:

IN! It’s breezy, youthful fun! Can’t hate, haters!

OUT! I feel like we need to have a serious conversation about that hair.

In other judgmental news, Aubrey Plaza’s Elizabethan cocktail dress was sneered at by the kittens, who voted it OUT.

IN, just because it’s more summery than so much else that’s going on. And yeah, it would work so well if she fixed the styling.

    • AlisonHendryx

out out out. the skirt can stay, but every single other choice is hideous.

    • Jackie Stewart

Can we please stop blowing kisses on the red carpet?

      • Nikko Viquiera

        and gun fingers!

    • LadyVimes

I don’t hate it, but the bangles are tacky, the talons are gross, and the the bag looks like she bedazzled a cockatoo on her way over.

The skirt and top is breezy and simple, and could have been borderline pretty if she hadn’t gotten everything else wrong.
The hair works because she’s young and it’s cut well.

      • mdcoon127

“Bedazzled a cockatoo” – quote of the day

        • mmebam

Bedazzled Cockatoo: band name, or EP title?

      • rockin robin

Oh god, the nails. I just noticed that.

        • ohhoneyhank

          SKIN. COLOURED. TALONS.

          /shudder

        • Kevin L

Exactly. I was into the look until I saw those awful claws.

      • Morgendorffer

I’m just thankful her hair is only shoulder length now. How soon we forget her ombre sheet of hair that was always a disaster.

      • Judih1

And for all the reasons you wrote above – this is an OUT for me. The top and skirt and IN, but what she did to it with hair, accessories and fingernails – ruined the look

    • Alison

      IN. I irrationally love this.

I mean, obviously with the exception of the claws and the hair and the posing.

      • annla

I also like (with stated exceptions) it because it is true to her personal style. It’s not amazing. But close enough to an in.

        • Anplica Fiore

Agreed – I also grudgingly give this an in if only because she’s staying true to herself. Even if that self is trying to copy a certain elderly gay windchime…

    • http://recapscallion.blogspot.com/ Claire

I mean the mere fact that a Vanessa Hudgens look is even being offered the possibility of an IN is a victory for her. The top/skirt combo suits her because it’s very much her style but executed in a way that doesn’t look like garbage. Accessories and hair are awful but if we’re grading on a sliding scale I give it an IN.

      • myandyleigh

My mind is having trouble producing cogent thought today, so let me just say “What you said” and be done with it.

      • random_poster

        IN for those reasons.

        • ballerinawithagun

          IN for the above.

    • LovelyIdio

IN on the outfit, but OUT on the creepy claw-nails. How do you do things with those?

      • kimmeister

I’m hearing Napoleon Dynamite saying, “Do the chickens have large talons?”

      • marlie

        Very carefully.

      • FrigidDiva

Those nails seriously gross me out. I just think of how unsanitary those things are by the end of the day. I don’t care how much you wash your hands, you’re going to get gunk under your nails, and those things are long and pointy enough to house a legion of the unknown.

        • Sophie

Unless you take a little nail brush everywhere and use it every time you wash your hands. I am wondering more along the lines of what Lovelyldio wrote: how do you do things? How do you hold a pen without punching holes in your thumb (same for eating utensils), how do you brush your hair out of your face without poing an eye out, how do you go to the toilet, etc?

          • FrigidDiva

I know the one time I decided to get acrylics I couldn’t stand them. They weren’t super long but trying to type, open a can of pop and just the feel of them drove me nuts. Then again, these are STARS, I’m sure they have an assistant somewhere to do anything for them.

    • antheapena

wow she looks so different, I’m not sure I would have known it was her. The look is completely her though except for the nails which are nasty looking

    • hughman

PANTS! THESE ARE PANTS!!! *screams and faints*

      • http://recapscallion.blogspot.com/ Claire

That sort of perversely makes me like it more for some reason.

        • mixedupfiles

Yeah, imagine Ingrid Bergman rocking them.

      • sienna elm

I didn’t catch that they’re pants. Thank you! That makes this a definite “out” for me.

        and the talons are terrifying!

      • Kitten Mittons

        Seriously?? No….no. Please say no.

      • ryenerman

        Wait, WHAT? That’s it. Out.

      • smayper

You said it before I could!!! I kept looking back and forth from the description to the pictures to the comments….YUP. PANTS. WHY????

    • Kitten Mittons

IN, only for the pictures where she’s actually smiling. The duck lips in the other pictures can go the way of the purse and the two-tone hair: to the trash heap.

I do like the clothes, the smile and the bangles.

      • zenobar

The duck-lippery is indeed strong with this one.

        • Kitten Mittons

So very strong. I hope she looks back when she’s older and sees how silly it looks, especially since she has a gorgeous smile.

And she’s lucky I voted before I knew they were pants. Still, since I couldn’t tell, I’m letting her keep her IN.

          Pretty sneaky, sis.

    • Beardslee

OUT. The skirt and the top don’t belong together and her hair and nails are sins against nature.

    • Glam Dixie

IN, it’s fabulous, and starlets will figure out very soon that the talon nails and ombre hair went out of style 6 months ago. That purse is fun, I’m digging this, it’s so summery and cool looking.

      • Rhonda Shore

IN because the outfit is cute. But the hair isn’t just ombre, it’s an ombre nightmare. She’s a very pretty girl, best suited to black hair. It’s a shame she does this, but LUCKILY it’s reversible.

    • Imasewsure

She’s a hippy… I’m a hippy… hate the two tone hair and she looks kind of tired but this is cute. Personally I love all of the hippy bangles and the silver… but then again, that is the calling card of my people

      IN

    • Anna

“Bongo denim halter top…” Jesus, that takes me back. Anyone remember when Liv Tyler used to be their spokesmodel? She probably wore this halter top in the ads.

      • kimmeister

I didn’t even know Bongo was still around!

        • Anna

Me neither! Vanessa’s apparently a spokesmodel.

    • http://www.domesticdisturbia.com/ Christi Wampler

The clothes I think are cute. The hair is cause for crime scene tape, as is the too-fair foundation. The talons are trailer park.

    • Zeee

I think the top and skirt are SO cute that the rest of the awfulness (omg those nails) can’t harm them.

    • leahpapa

OUT. “Denim halter top by Bongo” is the second worse phrase in sartorial English. (The worst is “footwear by Hot Topic.”)

    • @Biting Panda

In. In a for V.Hudge kind of way.

    • Grumpy Girl

IN, because seasonally appropriate clothing that fits well and looks nice on her. And at least her hair isn’t full of extensions! The feather purse doesn’t even bother me; it’s just the way she’s holding it that does.

The talons HAVE to go, though, and reduce the jewelry by half (as in, half the bangles, half the rings, and earrings half that size).

I’ll pretend her hair color is the result of an overchlorinated swimming pool–at least the bleachy bits are seasonally-possible too.

      • kimmeister

        Yeah, what she said!

    • Sartorial_She

I can’t get past the unholy talons. I think I just threw up a little bit in my mouth…
And, as hughman points out, these are PANTS. I cry.

    • http://www.snoskred.org/ Snoskred

OUT – Imagine what would happen if she miraculously gained 10 new arms, and 50 new fingers? She could wear so much more jewellery, though she would still never fit on her entire collection in one outing.. I’m guessing she has a *room* devoted to her sparklies.

As do I, of course. :) But I would never be so silly as to wear them all at once, worlds would collide!

    • http://urban-gypsy.com/ Tess Danesi

IN. Despite the hideous hair and the extra arm full of bangles, I really like this on her, it’s certainly seasonally appropriate and befitting her hippy dippy style. I actually love the feathered purse with it. Hate the hair and the talons and think one arm of bangles would have been perfect. But then again, it can be hard to resist the tingly sound of a lot of bracelets. Or maybe that’s just me.

    • MartyBellerMask

She plucked a bird AND yanked out its claws. FASHION!

    • SarahVN

OUT. Only the skirt is acceptable.

    • MarissaLG

OUT. The hair is wrong, the skirt and the top don’t go together, the bag is growing hair of it’s own, and she’s wearing wayy too many bracelets and rings. No no no.

    • Sara__B

OUT for the talons alone. Talons belong on birds of prey only.

    • http://www.dogsdotcom.blogspot.com/ Plink

Out! Love the top…with something else, anything else but this tragic skirt. The clutch looks like it’s from an old hag’s garage sale. And the talons? Hateful. And girl, please so something with that worn out hair.

    • mjude

I am voting IN because its not suede, or leather or long sleeve or skank boot. those talons must die

    • FibonacciSequins

Good *breezy summer* concept, horribly executed.

That’s not a bad shade of blonde for her; I have nothing else good to say about her hair (or anything else). Special mention to her makeup artist for making her face three shades lighter than her neck and shoulders.

      • Heather

Right? Her face DOES NOT MATCH HER BODY. That seriously freaks me out. More, even, than the talons or the bedazzled cockatoo purse.

    • http://TheDoseofReality.com/ The Dose of Reality

OUT!!! The only thing I’m on board with is the skirt. Her hair alone is going to give me nightmares. I can’t even think about the talons…

    • Dagney

mmmmm….I do kind of like this. She looks like happy and comfortable, which is always a great accessory, and the “overdone-ishness” kind of works because it really looks like her choice; like she said, “Fuck it! Ima gonna wear these crazy long nails and all this rings and these big earrings!” So, IN, for moi.

    • didgerdoni

OUT. My whole being is railing against this: the hair, the bag, the talons, the entirely-too-much-material-for-a-skirt-oh-sweet-jeebus-those-are-pants. No. Hell to the no. And then no again.

    • PlethoraofBooks

In, but a MASSIVE NO to the clutch, and Lord, she needs to accept and go back to full on brunette and no more skunk hair.

    • KendraMR

OUT. Everything is turrible from head to toe.

    • Myra Amler

Out. I cannot get beyond the hair. It looks like someone held her upside down and dipped her in bleach.

    • Pepper Collins

IN. *BUT* I hate the bag, the talons, and the fact that she’s wearing enough metal to build a new spaceship. I wish I could see her shoes (or lack thereof).

    • rkdgal

Out, although for her this isn’t half bad.

    • megg

IN! she’s so cute and campy–you can’t hate on her

    • Nancer

In. Cute and sassy and she don’t care what we think anyway! Which is how it should be. :]

    • Myra Amler

Out. I can’t get beyond the hair. It looks like she was held upside down and dipped in bleach.

    • MilaXX

IN! For a change everything fits and she looked really cute last night. Even the dye job worked.

    • http://www.lippsisters.com/ Deborah Lipp

I like the crazy jewelry, but nothing can redeem Pom Pom Purse. OUT.

    • bassfemme

IN! I love the retro-awesomeness of the halter (Let’s play some Frampton Comes Alive!) and the beautiful flowing pants. I love the clutch with its crazy feathers. The rings and bangles are a bit much, but a nice anchoring factor against all the billowiness. My only gripe is the hair. Ombre, when done subtly, is bearable. This looks like an outgrown suicide blonde a la Walmart at 3am.

      • Kayceed

I just had a ’70s flashback to “Free Halter Top Night” at the local ball park, coupled with Lawrence Welk’s lady singers, all in chiffon.

      • formerlyAnon

Yeah. I made two halter tops like that in high school. The blue denim-look fabric much like this, the yellow-beige denim-like one had a criss-cross lacing effect up the back.

    • AlexisPayne

      Its a look.

    • BayTampaBay

OUT! Chop the skirt off to knee length or Dior New Look length and I will reconsider.

    • M. H. Leader

OUT. Hate the hair. Hate the skirt. Hate the top. Hate the jewelry and the purse. Just…UGH.

    • DagnyReardon

      Youth allows such errors.

    • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

OUT. I love to smoke crack. But it needs to be high quality crack. With that said, I am jonesing hard for a The Sev post.

    • Columbinia

The Dragon Lady manicure accentuated by piles of rings makes her hands look like syfy-creature claws. The stacks of bangles add to the claw effect. I can’t get past it. Lose the talons and the metal work and I can live with this. But without those subtractions, this is an OUT

    • Gatto Nero

      Out.
The top and pants are fine, kind of young and breezy, but the hair and talons are a deal breaker.

    • Janet B

Out. Too much jewelry and hideous nails, otherwise I like this outfit. Perfect for her and the occasion. Happy to see her without the cocker spaniel hair for a change.
I think I’ve mentioned previously that she is my teen’s style inspiration. This is an outfit that wouldn’t embarrass me walking out our door.

    • greymain

      just OUT .

    • belfebe

      IN! She looks adorable.

    • Darcy H

I’m totally digging this except for those god awful nails and that hair, for which somebody should be given a stern talking to.

Ok and maybe the purse but somehow that’s mostly working too. Maybe it’s the heat.

    • Yoshio

I think it’s cute and while one can quibble (it’s what BKs do after all), this is an IN!

    • Liliter

It’s an IN by Vanessa Hudgens’ standards. Hair is horrid, accessories are tacky and make up is in the wrong shade. However, the outfit itself is pretty cute. The proportion of the dress/crop top is actually done right for once. It makes her looks taller than she really is

    • Lilah

      She looks completely stoned.

    • http://fibonaccisequins.storenvy.com/ Danielle

I like the breezy maxi ski-what’s that you say? Pants? It’s pants? Oh, dear.

      • somebody blonde

Holy shit, I totally didn’t notice they were pants! Good for her for not posing like a moron in them.

    • spirit52

      nothing good except the skirt

    • PeggyOC

Out. The outfit is close to in, but she just can’t resist taking it too far with the hair, nails and accessories.

    • Sherry N. Sutton

OUT. If styled correctly and all the other elements corrected (such as the hair, the talons) then maybe it would be an in. The pants are great.

    • SophieCollier

She’s trying to change up her entire look. Gonna have to bear with it while she misses the target entirely for a while. She’ll get it. I’m going to say IN just because it’s at least presenting a consistent character.

    • Mothra

I got the message that Ombre was Ovre, so how come she hasn’t?

    • http://www.tumblr.com/tumblelog/lastbutnotleast janinedm

Haha! You guys have been beaten down so much by all this summer velvet that you’ll take anything in season. Hilarious.

    • smh4748

Out. Admittedly, I’m having a hard time making it past the hair, but once I do, I also hate the skirt pants (How do we mash that? Skants? A pirt? All possible combos sound as fug as the garment.) as well as everything else. It just reads as “I’m a mini JLo, how FUN! Isn’t it fun, you guys?” And no, it’s not fun, Vanessa. :(

    • Jangle57

While I agree about the hair, the hardware and the Las Vegas lounge act purse, I can’t hate it so a lukewarm IN

    • marlie

Ditch the purse, the talons (come ON), the bad dye job (horrendous), and scrape off a layer of makeup (sweetie, you’re too young and pretty for a layer of warpaint like that), and we’d have something.

It might have been easier to just say keep the top and skirt and start over again with everything else.

ETA: That’s an OUT, by the way.

    • somebody blonde

In. That purse should be burned, but the rest is working well enough that I can ignore it. In this particular context, I actually like the talons and excessive jewelry. It makes her look like that cool chick who does the henna tattoos at the craft fair. I don’t have a problem with that.

    • Deac82

Miley Cyrus already did this look (and hair) back in 2012…Hunger Games premier.

      • Deac82

style appropriation (2 years later) = Out.

    • carnush

The poor chicken that can’t escape Vanessa’s steely grip. But still IN.

    • siriuslover

Out. The hair ruins the entire look.

    • Raspberry2012

I can’t even concentrate on the outfit because the hair is so distracting! I have to give it an out, because seriously, that fried looking hair that looks like a first grader dyed it for her ruins all of it.

    • Nikko Viquiera

      in. mumble mumble.

    • Amelia Ross

IN. the forever 21 accessories are all awful and tacky but I’m digging with the weird hair and the skirt n’ top

    • Emily Smith

In, at the very least it’s super venue appropriate.

    • julnyes

I’m torn, I think the outfit is breezy and cute but everything else is wrong. I’m going to have to sit out this vote due to ambivalence.

    • KimThore

Really and truly OUT. The skirt had potential but everything else is so horribly wrong at an epic level.

    • fursa_saida

I’m saying IN, despite agreeing that most of the details are off, because the overall effect is still somehow working for me. (I think the proportions of the midriff-baring are unusually good, also.) But the fact that her foundation is noticeably lighter than her actual skin is pretty distracting.

    • lalahartma

      Out.

    • stubbornthoughts

I don’t hate the skirt and top on her, but those talons give this an automatic OUT.

    • Jaeda Laurez

IN because I like pretty much everything except her hair.

    • Tanya Wade

It looks a little Porn Star Convention. OUT.

    • Kbear

I was gonna give it an “IN”, but after taking a closer look at those nails – it is “OUT”. How do you even blow your nose with those things? Maybe she has peeps for that.

    • SistaT

IN. Yes, the hair is tragic, but I love the rest of it, including the talons. (I say as I’m typing this with talons.)

    • imustacheyouaquestion

okay, but seriously it looks like she has claws!!

    • Diane Iafrate

you pin pointed everything I did not like…the hair, the nails, the bag… for me I am going to have to give it an ‘out’ , but the skirt is pretty.

    • GeoDiva

      IN… its a refreshing change

    • Starts with K

IN. I know. It makes no sense. Hate the purse. Hate the talons of death. Hate the kiss blowing. Hate the hair. Hate the mass quantity of cheap jewelry. But for whatever reason, she’s pulling it all together. There must be some kind of magic powers involved.

    • Adriana

At least it looks like a summer outfit. I dunno, I kinda like it!

    • crash1212

IN. The hair is awful and the talons are beyond…but she looks cute in this. It’s totally her aesthetic and if anybody could rock high waisted chiffon palazzo pants, it’s our little Vanessa. I love the denim with the light airy white fabric.

    • unbornfawn

The skirt/top is fine, cute even. But, boy oh boy, I am having one heck of a time getting past that industrial accident hair job and the duck lips. The feather purse is a bridge to far. I have to go with OUT. She took a great dress and ruined it with bad styling.

    • barbarienne

It could be improved in many ways, but the outfit is so great it overcomes the various problems around the edges (even the sheer-over-short skirt, since it’s not super sheer, so it reads more like a modesty lining. At least it’s not granny panties).

Anyway… IN. Mostly because it’s not bad enough to be an out, but also because she looks like she’s having fun, and that’s the best accessory.

    • Lisalady161

In because it’s young, cute on point for her. Bad for all the other reasons you listed.

    • Synnae

In- even with everything TLo mentioned, although I like the hair personally I can see their point. The basis is good, the accessories are a mess.

    • Dino Bonačić

IN. it’s summer – take it easy.

    • LJCdoc

That’s a purse? I thought she was being attacked by a Yorkie. Have to give it an out, the only thing that’s ok is the actual clothing on her body. All the accessories and grooming can go away fast.

    • Freynika

Reluctant IN. The top is cute and I’d like the pants if they were in a fabric that doesn’t look like my grandpa’s drapes.
When is this stupid hombre hair trend going to end? It always ends up making the hair look dirty and really badly maintained. What’s wrong with clean hair in one color? Geez, even if that one color was blue, it’d be better.

    • Tracy_Flick

OUT. Was it Coco Chanel who said you should never wear 10% of an apron with bridal pants and accessories from Claires? No?

    • BobStPaul

In. It’s nearly perfect for the venue.

    • Qitkat

I’ll give it an In. Initial reaction is cheerful, youthful, flattering, and a tiny bit of, Damn! I wish I could get away with this ;)
GSD today, best not to over-analyse.

    • kirsten Walther

Out because every single thing about the styling is wrong. It could have been perfection. And cut those nails Babs!

    • Winterlight

Out. The hair is horrifying, the nails look like she got finger extentions, the bangles/rings combo look like her hands got frozen above said extentions, the bag is shedding and the only women who are allowed to wear bare midriffs at formal events are bellydancers who are performing there.

    • Alyssa

Out. A denim crop top and pants trying to disguise themselves as a skirt = total out. Even if it does look breezy & summery. The hair, talons, jewelry, and purse all push it to definite out for me.

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

“Industrial accident dye job” = snorting my iced coffee. Sorry, I cannot get behind this look, there are too many negatives to balance out the few listless positives. OUT.

    • semirose

OUT. It’s the most basic outfit possible and she still manages to ruin it. That hair, that jewelry, that purse? No no and no.

    • CelandineM

Can I vote IN on the breezy summer outfit and OUT on everything else?

    • queeniethebold

Oh, my dears. No. No no no. OUT like a light.

    • almondemy

IN until Labor Day, because Vanessa Hudgens should be a seasonal treat, like Choco tacos. She only wears summer clothes. And when it’s September, I am going to be pursing my lips at this and giving her withering stares.

    • moweezy

outfit good, styling poor. if I had abs like that I would absolutely wear this to a summer evenings out relaxing on the waterfront or something. literally only the top and the skirt should stay

    • maretha2

A grudging IN. I hate the hair, but I hate it less then her awful extensions.

    • conniemd

Out. Denim halter with white sheer billowy pants. In other fabric in the top and I’d say In, despite the hair and styling.

    • ChelseaNH

I’ll go with in. If it were a hairstyle rather than a dye job, I could be persuaded to change my vote.

    • Whitney Barkley

I think this is my style, and I’m a little ashamed of myself.

So it’s an IN, if only because I would dress like this (except the talons) everyday if I weren’t a serious professional who can’t have fun things.

    • Athenrein

Skirt’s nice, top is even okay. Every accessory is deplorable. Out.

    • lbl

IN. It looks nice on her and the feather purse is a touch her regular purse without being obnoxious. The nails are gross and the kiss-blowing is annoying, but hey, you can’t have everything.

    • suzq

Add to your list the poorly constructed top. It bunches awkwardly. If I were Badgley or Mischka, I would refuse to send her stylist any more pants until I got an agreement that they would at least be paired with a decent top.

    • Zanna6

Getting a teensy whiff of Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader.

    • PetitePear

In. It’s cute and flattering on her.

    • Super_Red

I was going to give it a cautious in because the overall effect was nice and breezy, but then I saw the atrocity that are her nails *shudder* and I ran away. OUT OUT OUT OUT OUT.

    • smayper

That first picture wins me over. It’s terrible if you look at each element in isolation, but together for some unknown reason it looks cute, especially if you can forget the fact that THOSE ARE PANTS. She has just the right shape and size and age and look of mischief to make that denim top look adorable. I imagine that purse full of Charm Pops.

    • Clydette Wantland

      Out! Hate all of it.

    • http://weirdinedgewise.blogspot.com ONEWEIRDWORD

      IN cuz it’s workin

    • ktr33

Out. When my favorite part of an outfit is a light-wash-denim cropped halter, it can only be an Out.

    • rainwood1

Love the outfit on her. Hate everything else. So she’s IN. No, OUT. No, IN. It’s just that close.

    • Meri

In, because she looks summery and fun and happy and despite my deep and utter loathing of those nails.

    • Constant Reader

OUT – the outfit itself is cute and had potential but she failed on the details: awful dye job, talons, and accessories.

    • evave2

IN, I think the skirt should’ve been a little bit shorter, but what the heck, I’d wear it. For once there is no shoe discussion (you know, nude shoe, gladiator sandal etc etc, hide your feet, nobody knows you’re wearing slipppers).

    • http://stylishsass.blogspot.com/ TAKippy

Is it possible to give the clothes an IN but Vanessa herself an OUT?

    • formerlyAnon

I think this is WILDLY successful, and I like it on her.

Unfortunately, I still can’t call it in. I just can’t. I think it’s the hair.

    • housefulofboys

I like the skirt; the top is ok but not with that skirt. Hate everything else (ugh those bandaid colored talons are horrible). So a net OUT. I see what you guys are saying and from a (very long) distance, it does look breezy and summery, maybe it’s the combination of blue and white that looks fresh. But as soon as you get close enough to see the details it no longer pleases.

    • DominoEstella

considering ALL of the other things she could have chosen.. THIS IS AWFUL.

    • NinjaCate

IN, but only if she ditches the talons.

    • KT

The outfit totally works and it really suits her, but everything else is AWFUL. AW.FUL. The tackiness is wafting through my computer screen. I’m going to have to call this out, due to bad instincts and ruining a perfectly good look. Ugh.

    • Dollhead

      out. hate it all muchly.

    • demidaemon

I like the outfit, but everything else is not working for me. After weighing it all, I’m going with OUT.

It was the smurfy poses Vanessa. Try better next time.

    • musi_

IN. for the outfit. not for the heinous accessories.

    • ankali

OOOOOOUUUUTTTTT. No one can be in wearing those motherfuckin’ press-ons.

    • Sophie

In. I think it looks good from far away and gets progressively worse – apart from the hair, which is alway bad – but I like the overall impression.

    • PumpkintheCat

Anything that looks like the national costume of Tackyland can only be an OUT.

    • Sarah

OUT. Tacky personified and those nails…she looks like common gutter trash.

    • MemHey

Out. I didn’t know Badgley Mischka made lyric dance pants. The translucence is unsettling. Makeup and hair are discordant as well. Talons belong to Bon Qui Qui.

    • livesarah

In. It’s pretty, it’s not winter collection, and teenage girl magazines will be wanting to flog the shit out of those cheap-looking accessories. It’s perfect for her target market. I think she could get away with less heavy makeup, but I guess magazines like to flog the shit out of makeup products to young girls who really could do without it, so that’s probably something in her favour there too…

    • Ana Ced

IN. She looks good at least

    • frannyprof

      OUT. Ticky tacky.

    • Sara Hottman

The horror hair, nails that look like fleshy finger extensions, and the foundation that’s about five shades too light ruin the cute, seasonal halter and skirt. Out.

    • Jackie4g

In. It is high summer and this is appropriate for the venue and the season. She looks cute and that midriff is amazing! I wasn’t that firm when I was 12.

    • kfizz

Out, definitely. Is that denim? If the top were solid black or deep red in like silk or something, or actually anything except weird maybe-denim, I’d probably love it.

    • gefeylich

Out, because of the fried chola hair and the general curtaininess of the skirt. Also that purse looks like she bought it on Hollywood Blvd. Or the Eagle Rock mall.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

Not a single thing I don’t hate about it.

    • Kelly

In. Despite the missteps, it’s cute and suited to her and the season.

    • http://www.chifleschips.com Stefanie Argudo Mackenzie

In. There’s a whole lot of tacky going on, but there’s so much that collectively, it works. Plus, just look at the self confidence of youth knowing they look good going on. I do hate the hair though.

    • http://cheekypinky.wordpress.com cheekypinky

      IN.

It absolutely suits her, and bless her forever for not wearing seasonally inappropriate clodhoppers for the step-and-repeat.

      • http://cheekypinky.wordpress.com cheekypinky

(None of this is to say it *isn’t* tacky, talon-y, and cheap, mind. It just suits her in a way that it wouldn’t on just about anyone else.)

    • http://chick-habit.com Ally Huang

IN. Aside from all the things you pointed out, she looks fresh, the clothes fit and she looks happy!

    • Mailbtch

I like this a lot more than I thought I would! IN!

    • Badriya Al-Badi’a

Out–the thinking was along the right lines, apart from the tragic purse, but the elements just don’t come together. The skirt is by far the best part, but even that makes me think granny pantie bustle if I look at it too closely.

    • Julie Chase

      OOOOOUT. GAAAAH.

    • LibKat

T to the A to the CKY. OUT.

    • Ann VerWiebe

I like it! I wish I was young enough to wear stuff like that.

    • MissusBee

IN because it’s different (for her and in general) while avoiding the common style pitfalls of a) sexytimes b) pretentious much c) seasonal wtf d) proportion wtf e) my eyes.

    • jml27

in…she looks cute and happy about it.

    • PinkyK

IN – only because she looks cute and trying new things.

    • Jacob Bowen

I do very much like the cut of her hair and her makeup, and the outfit is GREAT, too, but you can’t wear ALL of Claire’s Vanessa, it doesn’t work that way!

      IN.

    • mhlmh

      IN. not perfect, but in.

    • another_laura

Out. The skirt is fine, everything else is a no. and that hair, oy, best just shave it off and start over.

    • Nicole

What kind of horrible scientific accident gave her one feather hand and one metal claw? I hope she got some really swell superpowers to go with them. She’s almost getting away with this because she’s absurdly young and pretty but it’s still a big OUT.

    • Michele Anne Lenni

OUT, OUT, OUT! It looks like she went wild at Claire’s Boutique & Wet Seal circa 1995.

    • Radish

Love the outfit. Those bangles look so uncomfortable. And the nails… I want to throw up.

    • MandyM

In! She has spent a little too much time at Charming Charlie but I really don’t hate the hair. The outfit is cute on her.

    • LeelaST

OUT. Hate the halter (denim no less), the bare midriff, the volume of the skirt, plus everything you mentioned, TLo, especially the hair. She looks very hard here, “hard” meaning decades older than she is.

    • Kathleen B

      Out. it’s awful

    • smallgirlsaretrouble

I feel like we need to have a serious conversation about those PANTS. Out.

    • Lexie

IN, for the clothes only. The hair and purse are not great.

    • a_liking

can i still vote? in! :) she’s youthful and fun. a lot of this is very on trend among the young trendy crowd.

    • amanda lynn

In – and she looks like she could play Daphne Rubin-Vega’s daughter or younger sister.

    • altalinda

      20 going on 56. Out.

    • sunnycalif

Out. “Honey, does this make my ass look big?” Whaaaaa!
