Aubrey Plaza in Tanya Taylor in New York City

Posted on July 31, 2014

Darlings, we just decided that it’s going to be STREET STYLE DAY here at T Lo Arbitrary Holidays, LLC. That’s mostly because there’s just not a lot going on in the world of celebrity red carpetry at the moment; or at least not a lot that we want to talk about.

It’s also because Miss Aubrey is throwing down the gauntlet of celebrity street style and saying “Bitches? Come at me.”

Aubrey-Plaza-GOTS-NYC-Tanya-Taylor-Tom-Lorenzo-Site-TLO (1)“Parks & Recreations” actress Aubrey Plaza leaves the Bowery Hotel in New York City, New York in a Tanya Taylor grey silk organza top paired with a Leather pleated skirt and Saint Laurent pumps. Aubrey Plaza is in town to promote her new film “Life After Beth.”

We could’ve done without the matchy Minnie Mouse pumps, but she’s serving up so much STREET SASS that we have to put aside our quibbles. This is a total look and she’s rocking it. Tucking that shapeless top into a killer pleated skirt was a brilliant idea.

I love this. I want to marry this.

      • Lisalady161

Rock that ‘Be Me’ vibe, girll! Brava.

    • HomeOfficeGirl

If you say so, uncles. I don’t like this. She looks like she is barely walking upright in those shoes.

      • mshesterp

And I think I dislike every piece of that collection–the pattern is so freaking drab.

Also, I sincerely hate skirts that sit at waist, but that’s because I’m short-waisted and carry my weight there. So when I see one in the wild, I want to yank it down.

        • Fitzperry

Ditto! In fact I was tugging at my own skirt while looking at the photos even though it didn’t need it.

        • oldscrumby

Oh thank god, I though I was the only one who loathed that print.

    • Thomas

She looks fabulous, but platform pumps look so ridiculous.

      • Gatto Nero

They look like they’re nearly hobbling her. The clothes are great, but I don’t know why she didn’t go for a more fun, youthful shoe.

        • Thom

Exactly, Gatto! Skyscraper heels with a pleated miniskirt seems tired to me, and oversexualizing. A shoe with a lower heel and some irony to it would’ve been called for, *especially* from April Ludgate.

          • Gatto Nero

A shoe with irony! Gotta love that.

Do you think that is a scuba material skirt? It looks like it might be.. :)

I don’t usually see anyone wearing heels that high on my streets but I do see a lot of butt crack. Maybe I need to look for nicer streets. :)

    • http://attiresmind.blogspot.com/ Kiltdntiltd

I do love that pleated leather skirt. It looks like it has great movement.

      • Beardslee

It does indeed but I wish it were a couple inches longer so she could do something crazy like sit down.

        • http://attiresmind.blogspot.com/ Kiltdntiltd

Oh there you go again Beardslee, expecting sense and such from the famous. She has people to do that sitting down stuff. lol

          • DebbieLovesShoes

“She has people to do that sitting down stuff”…. haha

        • Gatto Nero

The great thing about pleats is they create enough volume to provide coverage when sitting, even if the shirt is ultra-short.

      • girliecue

That skirt is knocking me out! I never would have guessed it was leather – looks like a much, much lighter fabric. It’s totally buttah!

      • Thom

Kiltdntiltd, why wouldn’t you like a pleated skirt? It’s in your name!

“Kiltdntiltd likes pleated skirt. Film at 11…”

        • http://attiresmind.blogspot.com/ Kiltdntiltd

LOL I suppose I was being Obviousman there for a moment. (grin) But there are lousy pleated skirts out there, ya know. This one is great.

    • elleg929

      Yay April Ludgate!

    • Kent Roby

I like the matchiness of the shoes (which I usually don’t, but I think it works here), though I wish they weren’t so clunky. In spite of that minor quibble she looks great, and has managed to improve upon the runway version by switching skirts.

    • Anna

At first, I was all set to go, “UGH. They’re STILL trying to make that print happen?” But good call on tucking it into the skirt, which I love. Hate the JustFab 2 pairs for $39.95-looking shoes.

      Mostly well-played though, Aubrey.

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

Definitely the best use of that pattern I’ve seen so far.

        • Anna

Agreed, I still prefer the bigger floral print from this collection, but this looks much better in a smaller dose rather than a full dress.

    • eowyn_of_rohan

I see your Andy Dwyer in an ill-fitted suit and raise you an April Ludgate dressed to kill. We know who’s winning this round.

    • MarissaLG

The nails!!! I can only assume she was forced to wear the shoes, but honestly this girl can do no wrong.

      • kimmeister

I dislike the tricky nails. They end up looking like a full manicure that has almost completely chipped off.

        • Guest

I don’t like the nails either. To me they look like when my husband misses with the hammer and hits his thumb instead, only on every finger.

    • prisma

I dunno. To me that looks like an outfit I would come up with if forced to choose something from the clearance rack in the juniors section of TJ Maxx. (Except the TJ Maxx version would be crappier fabric). The purse, of course, would be from the clearance rack in the accessories section.

      Hate the shoes.

    • GillianHolroyd

I get bruises underneath my fingernail like that when I accidentally hit myself with a hammer. But I’m not clumsy enough to hit every finger.

      • Anglow

I just got through growing out a smashed fingernail which took weeks and now I see I missed a fashion opportunity.

      • Emily Smith

Yeah that’s a weird variation of the reverse french manicure or whatever you want to call it. Not a fan. Looks like her polish is badly chipped from a distance.

      • Julz

I just tried to say the same thing! Only you said it much better.

    • Dino Bonačić

I want her to be my friend. Bitchy at times, funny all the way, and of course – has a good stylist.

      ps. Her legs are hot.

    • Aidan B

Yes to everything but the shoes. Much better than most of her RC appearances!

    • Jeff Warhurst

I think those shoes are ridiculous. She’s clearly struggling with them.

      • MoHub

As would almost anyone. Platform soles and any heels over 3 inches need to die.

    • elemspbee

Wish I could agree, but she is literal on the rocks. She can barely keep from toppling over with those plastic blue shoes! That’s not rocking anything.

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

I don’t mind the shoes–I mean, a girl has to wear her heels at every opportunity, right?–but I have never understood how ANYONE, male or female, wears closed toe shoes without something between their foot and the interior. I find it so uncomfortable, practically asking for blisters, and of course the dreaded stank that ensues afterwards. Powder helps only a little. I most often wear VERY sheer hose just so my feet are comfortable, although I can’t see Miss Aubrey doing that. What’s the answer? I know the BKs will have some creative options.

      • FrigidDiva

Depends on what I’m wearing. If it’s work and I’m wearing trousers I just go for the trouser sock/sheer. If I’m wearing a shorter dress though I usually coat the inside of the shoe with some baby powerd and put moleskin in the back near the heel so it doesn’t rub or blister, I also use moleskin near the toe part of the shoe depending on the fit. I don’t do a ton of walking outside when it’s hot in shoes like that so I don’t have stankfoot issues, at least so far as I can tell.

      • Kitten Mittons

I wear the little footy sock thingies. I know that’s a really helpful and descriptive term, but I don’t know their real name. They’re just tiny stretchy socks that cover the sole, heel, and toes, so you can’t see them with a heel or a flat. Some even have those sticky gel-like pads, so that they don’t slip around as much throughout the day.

I didn’t even know they existed until I was about 28, but now I see them everywhere. I even have a leopard print pair that I got at……Walgreens. I swear. I’m just like you, though. I have to have something on my foot, or they will be shredded after a couple hours.

Also, TMI coming, but I’ve had some issues with corns from jogging, so I started using those little corn pads, and they do provide a little cushion for problem areas. Now I use them even on spots that don’t have corns, sometimes. If I have a pair of shoes that rub a particular spot on my foot, I’ll stick a corn pad on, then the footy sock thingy, and off I go.

      • Gatto Nero

        Footie socks.

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

Taylor Swift is beating one of her stylists right now, because you know she is coveting this look for one of her exits from the gym.

      • sugarkane105

YAS. Miss Plaza is giving Tay a run for her money in the Best Legs department.

      • Janet B

My first thought: Taylor could wear this, but she’d wear red lipstick, carry a giant bag (awkwardly), and wear a cute shoe that clashed with her bag.

      • demidaemon

        :)

    • Milos Mom

Yes. THOSE legs are. She looks fantastic.

    • Radish

Non-platform black stilettos would be so much better.

    • Kitten Mittons

      HOT. DAMN.
Be warned, Aubrey: if you ever take that skirt off, it will be mine.

    • annmartina

Ballet flats or a strappy sandal would look so much better with this

    • cocohall

She wore this for an appearance on the View. It really popped on camera which is why I remember it so clearly. The skirt was VERY shiny, but the fullness of it mitigated its shortness, as when she sat down, there were no “issues” in terms of coverage. I hadn’t a clue as to who she was, but found out she is from Parks and Recreation. She was a refreshing surprise as unlike most starlets who come on the View, she was slyly funny, almost a little like Sarah Silverman. The shoes are a bit much, but on the View there a lots of camera shots that show the whole panel on the couch and it seems fancy shoes are required – there is usually some sort of shoe commentary at least once a show. So perhaps she had that in mind when she chose these. I will say to her “Job well done!” as I literally had no idea who she was before she sat down and now I’m likely to seek out her work.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gaby

I love and kind of want to be April Ludgate, so snaps for this (and it’s nice to see a Latina actress who’s not relegated to playing a stereotype or tokenized). Also snaps for getting to this outfit before Taylor Swift could make it insufferably twee – Aubrey has the edge to make it work.

    • sugarkane105

I love her, she’s from my hometown. This is a Personal Best, I say!

    • http://fibonaccisequins.storenvy.com/ Danielle

And look! I bet there’s actually something in that bag!

    • Denise Rambo

      Leather pleated skirt … genius!

    • MilaXX

Never in a million years would I ever recommend anyone wear light blue platform pumps, but darned if Aubrey isn’t looking all kinds of cute.

    • Emily Smith

I think I would have worn some hella cute flats instead of the painful looking heels. I need that blouse in my life, ASAP.

    • Glam Dixie

Platform stilettos and a pleated leather skirt do not read street or even day wear to me. She looks so odd to just be out and about in this get up.

    • frannyprof

That is some serious high-heel painrage going on in her face. Love the skirt.

    • conniemd

Is that top the same material we saw on Shelly O in a recent picture?

    • MoHub

      Burn the shoes!

    • NinjaCate

Wow. I’ve really thought of her as “stylish” but she is killing it. I even like the pumps!

    • Francesca Blom

I need this in my life. And my wardrobe.

    • Qitkat

Fie on the 60s/70s floral motifs on gingham! I don’t care if it’s made of silk organza or spun from the tears of a virgin, they will always look cheap to me.

    • quiltrx

A lower shoe would have made this really cute. It’s too “I’m sexy at the coffee shop” with these.
That skirt is great–I think it wouldn’t work for most of us (it would be too short, sit at the wrong place, cut us in half, make us look hippy, etc etc) but she has the right shape for it.

    • http://msavonelljrose.blogspot.com Avonell

I love this skirt so much!

    • ashtangajunkie

I really hate that manicure – the optical illusion is that the nails have been bitten down to the quick and then the little remaining nails are painted.

      • BLauDGaspode

It reminds me of when I slam my finger in a car door and get a bruise just down at the quick or something. Ick.

    • anonylind

Creepy manicure, but cute clothes. Hate the shoes. Hate.

    • demidaemon

Is Tanya Taylor the new IT designer? Because it feels like we have been seeing a lot of her the past couple of days. Just curious.

      • BLauDGaspode

I was thinking the same thing. When her stuff first started popping up on the site, I did not like it at all. I still don’t care for it much, but at least I find this iteration a fairly good look. It’s the secret stylist cabal at work.

        • demidaemon

No doubt. A point in her favor is that her clothes are stylable, unlike some other designers whose names need not be mentioned.

    • ktr33

Way to take a runway look to real-way, and make it work!

    • evave2

Thank you, T/Lo, for telling me who she is in the opening blurb. So often you post about somebody I never heard of but is, say, a Disney or Nickelodeon (my husband and I were discussing the much-love Rugrats yesterday: bring back Chuckie and his oatmeal box terror) star of major proportions. I admit I do not watch Parks & Recreation but I appreciate it is good because YOU GUYS say it is.

Now, I hate the skirt on the model, like the top and skirt on Miss Aubrey. but in the last shot she looks like she is about to tip over, so I don’t think I can appreciate the shoes that make her look like she is sliding over. Win for the summertime lady.

    • spirit52

I’m going to need her to get some sun

    • FibonacciSequins

Attagirl! I didn’t much like the Tanya Taylor top the first time I saw it, but it really improves by being paired with that black pleated skirt and blue shoes.

Who knew Aubrey had such great legs?

    • Man Dala

She looks incredible. I loved her cameo in “Welcome To Sweden” by the way.

    • marlie

If she’d worn a cute pair of flats, I’d totally be on board with this look. The shoes kill it for me.

    • mila_8

      That manicure bugs.

    • livesarah

That skirt is awful. The top needed to be tucked into something, but that skirt is the pits. So bad, I can even forgive the dreadful shoe pairing because it looks good by comparison.
