Gotta say, that’s some seriously hot shit.

We’re just old enough to be a little freaked out by how much what used to pass for gay male subculture has passed into the mainstream, from drag to the gay leather scene. Sure, America got introduced to leatherboy getups when the Village People hit the big time, but most people remained oblivious at the time as to what those costumes represented for gay men. Adam’s out, proud, and sashaying that leather-clad ass for the world to see. It’s not a big deal, but there was a time not that long ago when something like this would have been considered a big deal – and time before that when the reference would have gone over most people’s heads.

    • Plink

Let us now praise modern times!

    • @Biting Panda

      Wow. That’s a lotta a lot.

    • Gatto Nero

Love the uncles’ historical perspective on this getup. Very on point.
That said, this looks like a hella hot outfit for a stage performance.
ETA: How naive of me. Of course there were multiple costume changes.

    • Akemi

I liked this outfit, and also thought he did a great job covering Queen songs; he made them his own, and didn’t try to mimic Freddie.

But I laughed for like, 20 minutes when he came out in that leopard print suit later in the evening.

    • MilaXX

Of course he’s wearing Versace. I’m sure he and JLo send Donatella muffin baskets on the regular.

      • Thomas

And Lady Gaga don’t forget. She and Donatella are like besties now.

      • Leah Elzinga

not real muffins, though. carbs=HORROR. possible handcrafted “muffins” made of rhinestones and leather?

    • Thomas

Thank God he didn’t wear the chaps though.

      • Janet B

I saw Queen a few times. Did Freddie Mercury wear chaps? In my mind he did.

        • Thomas

Not that I know of, but I just googled “Freddie Mercury chaps” and a picture of Hitler’s head on a buff body in a chaps and speedo combo came up, so that made my day lol

          • Janet B

I had to look, too. Freddie wore pretty tame pants compared to some.
Buff Hitler was good for laugh.

      • smayper

The picture of that model’s little underpants struck me as hilarious.

        • yllas

(Me, too! HEL-lo! I immediately scrutinized Adam’s outfit for similar, but … no.) Really, nothing much to be said here.

      • Kathy

        Yes, Praise Cheeses.

    • Kate Andrews

Love it, but I’m very thankful he wore the full pants, not just the chaps!

      • Lauriellen

Adam’s junk would have filled in the hole in the chaps. 😉

    • Supernumerary

Is he transforming into a leather-clad, ’90s-era George Michael here?

      • Mismarker

Yessss! The leather and the mirrored shades are so very George Michael. But even 90s George had the good sense to pair his leather moto jacket with a light wash jean… not more leather. Still, dammit, Adam is sort of selling this for me.

        • Kristi Mitchell

That hair is also very circa 90’s George Michael, just a darker shade.

          • Mismarker

Adam needs some good old fashioned hair frosting to complete this look.

      • DinnerIsServed1972

I was totally feeling George Michael here. I love it!

      • Vegas Girl

I was actually listening to George Michael as I clicked on this article and thought that was why I was seeing it. I’m so glad I’m not the only one who thought it. (I love George, still)

      • marlie

THIS. THANK YOU. He reminded me of someone, and I couldn’t think of what it was.

      • Hysterectomypants

I knew he looked like someone other than himself here, and I settled on Beefy Zachary Quinto As George Michael. Which is a fine look by me.

      • twocee

Oh good, I’m not the only one seeing George Michael.

      • Terri Ellis

        My thought exactly!

    • Anna

I remember laughing my ass off when I first saw the photos from this collection, but DAMN. This is some hot shit indeed on Adam, I’ve really enjoyed his style during his latest public appearances.

    • Crystal

Thank god he’s wearing pants and not chaps.

I enjoy his style. It’s crazy, but it’s FUN, which is something a lot of boystars can’t bring themselves to attempt.

    • ginnyt20

If you’re a pub man, or a club man maybe a jet black guy, with a hip hi-fi
A white cool cat, with a trilby hat
Maybe leather and studs, is where you’re at
Make the most, of every day don’t let hard times, stand in your way
Give a wham, give a bam, but don’t give a damn
‘Cos the benefit gang, are gonna pay

Yeah…Adam Lambert is taking me back to the days when I didn’t realize that Wham! wasn’t two hot straight guys who just sang fun songs. Ok I WAS 5 at the time and I totally get it NOW…and still love it.

      • ViolaZuppa

Thanks for the earworm. That one came out of the recesses of my memory and is gonna stick for a LOOONG time.

        • ginnyt20

Haha! Sorrynotsorry! I have it in my head too and am just about to listed to Make It Big. I’ll be singing Wham! all weekend

          • random_poster

That’s a fantastic earworm in my book!

          • kimmeister

Wham! and swing music never fail to improve my mood. They’re magical.

      • Sarah

Well, to be fair, I was older than you when Wham was in, and I would hazard that in the US at least, nobody really knew. They were not marketed that way.

        • lovelyivy

It’s up there for hilarity with everyone running around in Frankie Says Relax! tshirts. Good times…

          • Sarah

            Really. HA!

        • ginnyt20

Yeah…it’s exactly as T&Lo said…it was out there but we were oblivious. I mean…it WAS the 80’s. I’m glad Adam Lambert can be out and proud with no one batting an eye now at least!

      • kimmeister

George was one of my celeb crushes all through the 80’s (when I, too, was in the single digit age range).

    • Alyssa

That is a lot of look, which he can handle. So glad he opted out of the chaps. I’m curious as to where the necklace goes in some pictures. I know costume changes are common in performances, but I’m not as used to disappearing jewelry.

    • TinyDynamo

So I’m the only person who is kinda surprised/bummed that he didn’t go for it & wear the chaps? Bc that would’ve been BOLD.

      • HomeOfficeGirl

That would have been beyond bold. I’m not sure most of us would have survived it. LOL!!!

      • Thomas

Some things are meant to remain part of the subculture.

        • MissusBee

Some things are meant to remain part of the subclothes.

      • queenrosered

This may come as TMI for you but he is, errrmmm, well, much better “equipped” than the model and any resulting photos would be NSFW, lol. 😉

    • HomeOfficeGirl

Too too much fun. I adore him. He is HOTness up there!!

    • GoAwayKardash

I saw this concert (Queen + Adam Lambert) and it was awesome. Lots of great costumes worn by Mr. Lambert…in a cheeky/couture kind of way as only he can do

      • Thomas

        I love your username lol

        • GoAwayKardash

Thanks. It’s like a little prayer

          • Thomas

I think we could find a few million worshippers to join in that prayer.

          • Karen Belgrad

Do you say it before you put on your make-up?

            • Gatto Nero

I see what you did there.

          • Meg0GayGuys6

          • Constant Reader

            I would join that church.

      • Karen Belgrad

What did he sing while in this outfit… I need to live vicariously and piece it all together!

        • GoAwayKardash

The Uncles failed to mention that this was at the Queen + Adam Lambert concert. The context does help a bit.

          • Violentcello

I was wondering, because this read Freddie Mercury to me more than the Village People.

        • Kathleen Stoughton-Trahan

Now I’m Here, Stone Cold Crazy, Another One Bites the Dust, and Fat Bottom Girls. Queen + Adam Lambert tour

        • Glam Dixie

Karen, you must youtube it, you won’t regret it. In the lap of the gods, Seven seas of rhye and Killer Queen are pure gold although those are in a different but equally fun outfit.

          • FibonacciSequins

I just watched him do Killer Queen on a fainting couch with a fan. Fabulous!

          • Karen Belgrad

I will! Is there a YouTube poster you’ve found with the best visual/sound quality? (Save me time, lol)

            • Glam Dixie

TALCvids and cos2mwiz both have great ones.

            • decormaven

Thanks for this info, Glam Dixie. Great performances!

            • MartyBellerMask

THANK YOU. A friend of mine went and saw them last night, and I was sad to miss it. Will have to look for those.

          • Constant Reader

Thanks for the tip! I honestly had never heard Adam Lambert sing a note before and HOLY SHIT what a voice! I must admit, I teared up a little during Somebody To Love and I don’t even know why.

I am totally going to be a Glambert fangirl now and downvote anyone who says he’s less than 100% perfection. 😉

            • Glam Dixie

As I always say, Another One Bites The Dust. 😉

            • Constant Reader

“…Another One Bites The Dust.” I see what you did there! :)

            • formerlyAnon

              Laughing, here.

            • queenrosered

” am totally going to be a Glambert fangirl now and downvote anyone who says he’s less than 100% perfection”…..As you should CR…as you should….lol. 😉

            • VioletF.

Track down this you-tube: Adam at 22 singing “Come to Me, Bend to Me” from Brigadoon . My ovaries exploded at 3:24 and I became a Glambert on the spot.

    • Mismarker

This is what a Mattel “Rock ‘n’ Roll Ken” doll would wear.

      • annehedonia

I want that doll for my Barbie’s Dream House. Full scale, please.

    • boweryboy

I’m grateful he didn’t wear the chaps/speedo combo. If I found him attractive I think I would need a private moment while viewing these photos, but no.

    • Angela

This is some George Michael/Rob Halford love-child awesomeness.

    • Missy

      1. I think he looks completely fab. I kind of love the boots and love-like everything else.
      2. How is he not drenched in sweat? Because the look is both hot and *hot*.

    • International Model

I remember the pearl clutching over George Michael’s Freedom 90.

And why hasn’t there been a Village People reality show – the Search for the NEW People?

      • marlie

        I would totally watch that.

    • Glam Dixie

      Smokin’ hot.

    • jonnyf8

I went to this concert in Vancouver a couple of weeks ago and his clothes were perfect. It was very Adam but at the same time paid homage to Freddie Mercury’s style. Staging was stunning, Adams singing amazing, and the 2 original band members, Brian May and Roger Taylor were in top form. If you have an interest in Queen, Adam or just a good show you can’t ask for a better evening.

    • Qitkat

Well that model stopped me dead in my tracks!
As for Adam Lambert, he is so far off my own planet, yet pop culturally I know exactly who he is. So I see this as AL just being AL.

The Village People…I love it when life throws something random and coincidental in my face. Did anyone see the episode of Major Crimes this week where Rusty offered up the immortal line: “Who are the Village People?”? LMAO

      • demidaemon

I wish I did. I really do, but TNT is being a bitch to me. :(

    • Sarah

Interesting how that honking HUGE chain choker seems to come and go in these pics. I mean, I get costume changes, but jewelry changes? Weird. Maybe it was too heavy for his vocal chords? Did he throw it in the crowd? Cuz somebody might’ve got knocked out.

      • Glam Dixie

The pictures from a couple of different performances probably got mixed together from a night he didn’t wear the chain and a night he did.

        • Sarah

Aah. I was worried somebody got brained with that thing. That necklace could double as snow chains, for reals.

          • Glam Dixie

Yeah, that thing would hurt but I seriously doubt Adam could ever be convinced to throw his beloved accessories into the crowd. :)

    • LeelaST

Would love to hear your take on the remainder of his tour costumes (a la your posts for Miley, Katy, etc.). Love this look.

    • vahtel

Channeling some George Michael realness here.

    • BayTampaBay

He reminds me of George Michael for some reason. It may because I am old enough to remember George Michael, and WHAM for that matter, in his heyday and at his peak.

    • lovetheusa1776

With that face and bod who cares what he wears – lol – all good.

    • FibonacciSequins

Looks hot, in both senses of the word. I like Adam’s look in general these days.

By the way, these photos were taken while he was performing with Queen. I’d say Adam did Freddie Mercury proud.

      • decormaven

Yes he did! But as good as Adam is, there will always be a special place in my heart for Freddie. His performance of “Radio Ga Ga” at Live Aid- I wore out my VHS tape of that performance. Bless YouTube for preserving that bit of history.

        • FibonacciSequins

          Freddie was an irreplaceable gem.

          • formerlyAnon

Yes. And we even knew it at the time, which is not always the case.

I would say stuff about having the musical chops and working your ass off as well as having the image/style – but that’s old lady talk. And I just don’t have the energy to go out and chase kids off my lawn today.

          • MartyBellerMask

He died on my 15th birthday. It was devastating.

      • ashtangajunkie

He’s quite good with them, but he doesn’t have Freddie’s vocal range. Then again, that’s probably an unfair comparison.

      • BeccaGo

OT: I love your username so, so much. :)

    • Meg0GayGuys6

I can’t imagine the sweat goin’ on under all that. “…no, and the sweat and powder has turned into a paste!”

      • Wink

        Love the Ross Geller reference.

    • lovetheusa1776

T&L should post a vid of one of the leather-clad performances – nominate “Stone Cold Crazy.”

    • Cyprienne Zed

Coco Chanel says to take that choker off.

    • lovetheusa1776

Big fan of the bottom pic –

    • KES4K

That model is GORGEOUS, but hot damn, the whitey-bandana-tighties are an off-putting detail.

    • MartyBellerMask

Well played, Adam Lambert. Well played.

    • marlie

For stagewear, I love this. Totally suits Adam. And I’m SO thankful that he didn’t go with the chaps and the bikini briefs as on the model.

    • suzinrva

Rob Halford’s been sporting leather since the late 70’s with the introduction of “Hell Bent for Leather.” Granted his leather tends to be more spiky and a tad less glam. Love that not one of his mulletted, sleeveless tee wearing, teen boy fans thought he was gay while banging their heads to heavy metal.

    • Jacqueline Wessel

That giant curb link necklace, but in silver, I’ll take one. Thanks.

    • lovetheusa1776

Propose an “Ode to Adam’s Haunches.”!

    • e jerry powell

At least he did the leather pants rather than the chaps/jockstrap option. That would have been way over the edge.

    • Bad Idea Jeans

Wait, there’s something not missing from his pants.

    • MarissaLG

Am I disappointed they opted to make changes to the runway version? Of course. Does he still look great? Of course.

    • SistaT

He is the lovement of my life. I have loved him from the very first second I saw him on “American Idol”. He looks perfect.

    • Shawn EH

      He’s made for studded leather!

    • Lily

    • Jake Donohoe

I want to see this become normcore. Is that asking too much? Please. Everyone needs to let their freak out. Everyone.

    • kimbalala

      judas priest realness

    • ReadBarbara

Someone’s been watching George Michael’s “Faith” video but swapped the jeans for leather pants, as you do. (Yes, George himself was tapping into the sub-culture, not inventing the look, but it was new to me back then.)

      • LadyLuck777

That’s exactly what I thought when I saw it too. He pulls it off really well.

    • imustacheyouaquestion

Still whenever I see a man in head-to-toe leather I think of Tobias Funke, “Just call me leather daddy!”

    • Linderella

He has a habit of wearing things that make him look bigger than he is (not in a good way). This makes him look inordinately chunky (or at least very thick). Though I suppose singing in it for an hour would make you drop about 20 lbs. At least he opted not to wear the granny panties.

    • LW

lol no comment on the leapord suit and crown, am disappointed

    • Lauriellen

Nine pictures. That number “comes up” a lot where Adam is concerned. 😉

    • Kevin Lewis

Um, what ass would that be? I see leather-clad legs and a leather-clad back with nary a buttock in between.

      • lovetheusa1776

Nah – years of observation – he’s built like a Studebaker.

    • evave2

It looks better on him than the model because the T-shirt and actual pants fill in the blanks; it also looks thermally hot (not just HOT).

      • evave2

Oh he’s not wearing the chaps; are his pants part of the outfit or just some other pants. Either way he looks thermally hot. Whoever went, how long did he last in this outfit before he changed?

        • Glam Dixie

This is the outfit for the first 4 songs every night.

    • Milos Mom

      Versace. Versace. Versace.

    • Man Dala

Very intense and perfect for the stage, and the show. I love it.

    • eriskaycavan

No one hotter in leather!!! Whew! :)

    • SMcG

Adam nails it. That is all!

    • quiltrx

      I LOVE this–very sexy stagewear.
And very callback-to-Faith-era-George-Michael, which in my book is never a bad thing!

    • majorbedhead

Phwaaaar! Damn, that man is hot. Like, seriously hot. too bad I’m not a gay man.

    • stubbornthoughts

He looks awesome! But I gotta say, he must have a team of people peeling that shit off of him at the end of the night. SWEAT. SO MUCH SWEAT.

      • lovetheusa1776

Three more outfits – so the peeling takes place four times. (And, yes, two peeps dedicated to the task.) There’s a line forming . . . .

    • Bert Keeter

If Freddie Mercury and Boy George had a baby….. he’s it!

    • Columbinia

      1980s Greenwich Village.

    • formerlyAnon

He gives good value for the ticket price.

    • Corsetmaker

Head to toe leather has been pretty mainstream when Elvis donned it for the comeback special in 68. Then here we had granny friendly Alvin Stardust in the 70s. It’s an image that’s now so threaded through music culture that it crosses into pastiche at times.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard him, he isn’t a feature over here but he looks a hell of a lot like George MIchael. I generally open posts on him to chuckle at the fan responses which always amuse 😉 But he does have a far better haircut these days and is less dayglo orange.

    • Danielle

Anyone else wishing he had kept the pants as chaps?

    • Jeff Warhurst

      K.D.Lang in the hoooooooooooooooouse!

    • revlisacat

I went to this concert and was blown away (I’ve always wanted to see Queen and am a fan of Adam). I thought this outfit was good but it’s not the best one of the night. The leopard suit is way over the top, and I love the fringes. However, the outfit he wears that is a bronze lace shirt, black vest and bronze leather pants in person is absolutely beautiful. Those pants fit very well.

    • Guest

That is one impressive George Michael impersonator.

    • crashtestbonnie

So… scrolling thru the comments it seems I wasn’t the only one having a total George Michael double vision moment. ;p Also: it would have been AWESOME if he’d kept the original chaps. Guy’s had nothing to hide since day 1. Why so shy now?

    • sunnycalif

Elvis a la the 1968 “Comeback Special” in black leather.

    • bluefish

He brings back that perfect 80s vibe– When looking like this was just a weekend away. Seems like it wasn’t that long ago, and it wasn’t, but he was one of the first to put it out there and it’s nice and about time to see him take the prize for real, He’s beyond talented and I’ve long loved all of his looks. Voice, face, body attitude = super star.
