Love the dress, girl.

It’s chic and simple and shows off your athletic frame well while coming off somewhat modest (which we suspect is a goal in your dressing). Hate the shoes. Sorry. We understand the urge to do the ever-popular “pop of color” thing with such a colorless dress as this one, but red pumps sure as hell don’t say “June” to us. Now, blue – THAT would have been the way to go here. Or oxblood, maybe. But this kind of red is just distracting and feels off-season.

But we’re gonna say this: Honey, you need to grab the style bull by the horns. This is very tasteful and looks good on you, but since you actually won an award this night (which: Yay, by the way.), we think you need to start stepping up your game. Tasteful is all well and good – and we’d never argue against having taste – but you should dip your toes into the “glamorous” side of the celebrity style pool – and soon. Let’s get you on some magazine covers, girl. Let’s poledance like crazy for that much-deserved Emmy nom. Let’s see you show up in an outfit that’ll have the photographers punching each other in the face as they try and get a shot of you.

Come on. You know you want to.

(We’re filthy little style pushers, aren’t we?)

I think she looks great. I would love if she picked a clone for each red carpet. I’d love to see what Cosima or Alison would wear to the Emmy’s.

But let’s be honest, she could wear a burlap sack and I’d still love her and cheer to the high heavens that she won for Best Actress.

    • gabbilevy

I guess this is Jennifer? Or maybe Beth?

      • PastryGoddess

That would be amazing!! Hair and all

      • korilian

Heh. I was thinking Rachel myself.

  • MilaXX

I liked this look, red shoe and all, but I do think she needs to step up her glam game a tiny bit.

  • LadyVimes

Beautiful dress and beautiful accessories, but those shoes are horrible. They clash with the streamlined style of the dress.

  • This is someting Rachel would wear.

  • Frank_821

    I concur.

best part if she does the emmy award poledance dance is each week she can channel a different clone as her theme. She can match the right identiity to the right venue…My god imagine the Rachel or Helena equivalent of glamourous…..lol

and yes yeah for winning. I think she won this award last year as well

  • Super_Red

What I love the most about her is that even standing here, even as she plays several different characters, I don’t see any of them in her in this picture. She truly looks like a different person. Well done!

  • FibonacciSequins

    I LOVE this.

Hoping for a Critic’s Choice red-carpet rundown before you knock off for the weekend, TLo!

  • ballerinawithagun

    Gorgeous dress, perfect construction!

  • Amelia Ross

That first shot is all Rachel.

  • Glam Dixie

She’s channeling Alison with this look. I’d love to see her in something glamorous, but she looked like she was having such a blast last night I can let her have a little bland and tasteful.

  • Judy_S

It’s fun to read these comments. She beats out Chloe Sevigny in the multiple-possibilities sweeps (as well as others).

  • @Biting Panda

Looking at her photos last night, it would be a mindfuck when when I’d see a glimpse of each character. She is amazing and I may be more than a little obsessed with her.

  • marlie

Her smile is really beautiful. It’s a shame we don’t get to see it on the show. I like the dress, and it really suits her, but it IS a little too safe. The color of the shoes don’t bother me, but the fact that they seem to be suede does. I’d like to see her amp it up as we get closer to the Emmy’s.

  • Kitten Mittons

I’m not crazy about the hem length on her. I’d prefer it somewhere closer to her knee. And the shoes just look too heavy, I think. Otherwise, this is really very pretty. I’m such a sucker for simple and elegant, though.

I don’t watch her show (yet), but she is quite striking.

    • demidaemon

Yeah. It’s neither here nor there. I suspect that the side ruffle/pleat/peplum may be part of the reason that length was okayed.

      • Kitten Mittons

Yes, they want it to drape dramatically or something. Then make it a floor-length dress, dammit. Rahr.

        • demidaemon

I am definitely pro full length here.

          • Kitten Mittons

Anything but this in between stuff. Since she apparently won an award, or was nominated, I wouldn’t think full length would be overdressed. And the sportier cut would mitigate that as well. I really do like the cut otherwise.

  • fananafanafophalec

must be getting shoe advice from Ms. Nyong’o. if only she’d get dress and make-up advice as well

  • LK Bennett now just says “Cathy Cambridge” to me, and while Cathy Cambridge is an admirable thing for a young woman to be, I don’t necessarily think that it works with “hottest thing on TV”.

    • kimmeister

Me too! And LK Bennett also only says “shoes” to me rather than including clutches.

  • Danielle

I have quibbles with the hem length but overall I like it. The red shoes don’t even bother me.

    • marlie

I was trying to decide if the “look” of the dress would be lost if a couple of inches were chopped off… The length and proportions of the dress are perfect on the model, but I think Tatiana might be a skosh too short for the dress.

      • KinoEye

I also think that hem needs to have a few inches hacked off. I think you’re right about her being too short for it. Once again, it’s a case of ladystars being much, much smaller (on average) than the models these clothes are designed for.

      • Danielle

        Yep, needs to be knee-length.

    • kimmeister

The red shoes aren’t my favorite, but they don’t bother me either. I don’t see how oxblood would be any more summery than red.

      • Danielle

I agree with you. Oxblood has always read “fall” to me.

        • lsaspacey

  • enuma

I love the dress from the waist down. The bodice looks just a little bit too much like a bathing suit to me.

  • HomeOfficeGirl

What a difference when she smiles – she looks so down right ready to burst into tears in some of those shots that I feel guilty critiquing her outfit!!

  • VioletFem

She looks very pretty, although the dress seems a little long on her. I think it would have looked better if it was hemmed to a similar proportions as it looks like on the model. Also, in the first shot she “looks like” Rachel, but in the shots where she is grinning she looks a lot more like Cosima.

    • wisdomy

I was just thinking exactly the same thing, except that I also thought the profile is pure Beth.

No Sarah or Alison or, thank goodness, Helena, to be found here.

  • MaggieMae

    Million dollar smile that one.

  • TwiddlyStun

We suspect she wants to, but we KNOW she can do it, since she can pull off so many other looks so well in front of the camera. May as well try it IRL!

  • Julie Chase

Look at that smile. I just love her face.

  • AlisonS

I really liked this look… until I saw that she was my age and then I felt old. Did that happen because I think this look ages her 10 years? I really wouldn’t have pegged her for my age.

  • Grumpy Girl

I like her earring-thing. I like her smile. Do not like the lipstick application as it appears when she is not smiling. And it’s a complete mindfuck to realize she looks so damn different from the clones. There’s a lightness and youth about her that I do not see in the show (which makes sense since the clones are all dealing with shit, not winning an award). But I hear Mr Grumpy pointing out to me that he prefers the Sarah makeup.

  • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

I love the red shoe — I love the whole outfit, though maybe her hair is a bit messy. I am loving/hating/obsessing and loving Orphan Black. God, for every clone I like, they throw in a clone I HATE. Seriously, some of them deserve to die (and I suspect that is going to start happening more often). That’s some good acting.

  • Imasewsure

Seems about 6 inches too long to me although I’m not a fan of this length in general. Pretty overall though. Baby steps

  • nannypoo

I love everything about this, although I’m guessing her hair looked a little better before she left the house. I like the shoes with the dress, especially when compared to the model’s footwear.

  • Tracy_Flick

Also, please retain an adult to apply your lipstick.

  • msdamselfly

SHe has gorgeous skin and her makeup looks beautiful

  • smayper

I want so badly to see Helena on the RC. WANT.

  • Fuchsiaforever

Yeah she looks like…me or any other regular folk on the street…no we don’t want that. She needs to turn it up a couple if notches. The pressure is on!

  • SierraDelta

More jewelry. Please and thank you.

  • Logo Girl

I cannot shake the thought that she looks like a young Grandma Walton with brown eyes. Just can’t.

I mean I’m general, not in this dress 😉

  • Mink Carlyle

I think the shoe colour is supposed to coordinate with the lipstick. And the dress is too long – if you look at the model it’s just below the knee, but is much longer on her. I guess they just gave her a made-for-model one and didn’t alter it. I think overall she looks pretty good, though. She could look stunning, of course; she’s got the ‘bones’.

  • Dagney

and buy a brush. and a comb.

  • quiltrx

She looks lovely. There’s something too dull and meh about the shoes, they make me feel sad.
I have Orphan Black in my Amazon queue, and it sounds like I need to start watching it (of course there are about 5 series between there and Netflix that keep getting recommended to me!).

  • myristica_fragrans

    needs more gillingham.

  • lsaspacey

She looks fabulous in that dress. I personally love the shoes. Because, well, it is June. Why in the world would oxblood shoes look better than the red-orange ones that she is wearing? Oxblood screams fall/winter to me. Anyone else agree?

    • crash1212

      I agree…totally. I love a red shoe – season be damned.

  • BlackbeardsWyfe

Imagine if she only had a gay posse……….

  • crash1212

I love a red shoe – season be damned. She looks fab and should win all the awards.

  • LambeeBaby

I can’t stand the color (lack of) It’s bordering on dingy. Otherwise it would be a win.

  • JynxTheCat

the length just hits that certain spot that makes your calf look like the top of giant feet. I hate that.
