Everyone Wants to Be… Lea Michele in Bibhu Mohapatra in New York City

You guys, we think we might cry.

Lea-Michele-GOTS-Bibhu-Mohapatra-IRO-Alexander-Wang-Tom-Loenzo-Site-TLO (1)Lea Michele is seen leaving her hotel in New York City City in a Bibhu Mohapatra skirt paired with an IRO jacket, Olivier Peoples sunglasses, an Alexander Wang bag, and Bionda Castana pumps.

We’re just so, so happy right now. Our little … something is all grown up.  *snf*  We didn’t want to say “whore,” because that would be shamey.

Our point is this: she looks adorable and stylish and yes, even sexy here. If the gal really does love showing as much square acreage of skin as the law will allow, well then God bless her, but we’re never gonna think it’s the best way to interpret her looks and image. Cute, sassy chic is hers to own. It’s nice to see her either figuring this out lately or listening to someone who advised her to go this way.

(Lea, if it was us, just spell out T L O with your fingers, gang-style the next time you’re papped)

Our only quibble is that the skirt is a skosh too tight, giving her a bit of muffin top. Otherwise, the whole thing’s perfectly cute. More of this “Everyone Wants to Be Me” right now and a little less “Everyone Wants to Do Me,” please.

    • GillianHolroyd

      Very sharp.

    • kimmeister

That jacket is amazing! I see that she rewore the shoes from yesterday’s street look. I applaud her decision to remove the silly black ankle straps.

    • FibonacciSequins

Another winner for Lea. I would like that jacket to be in my closet.

      • Jacqueline Wessel

        Yes, that jacket is fab.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

I love that jacket, and would love it even more if it came in a deep blue.

        • majorbedhead

          Or a really dark purple.

          • bitchybitchybitchy

That would be scrumptious in dark purple

    • Noah

      Spring jacket porn.

    • thecitysleeps

I’m gonna be the black sheep and say y’all can keep her. I just don’t like her I guess. I want to burn those shoes and I don’t like the jacket with that skirt and that boob top looks cheap. *ducks*

      • BlairBear

I agree on almost all points. I like the jacket on its own. and the skirt in a size up for that matter. together not so much

        • jtabz

Agreed. I think this is infinitely better than Lea’s usual showings, but the only piece here I really like is the jacket.

Speaking of that jacket … a question for the kittens having the “jacket + sandals” debate over on the Emma Stone thread: what, I pray, do you make of a jacket with a tube top?

      • butterflysunita

I agree. This outfit is the right direction for her but that jacket–fabulous as it is–just doesn’t go with the skirt. And hate the bandeau top.

    • flamingoNW

I await the day that an actual celeb walks up to TLO and says “I took your advice! don’t I look fab?”

    • James

No, not me. Skirt’s too long, that strip of skin is a no, the shoes are a no. The jacket could work with something else. So a big fat no.

    • http://www.snoskred.org/ Snoskred

And there I was thinking maybe three in a row were happening to us, and that this might be change we can believe in.. then she lifted that arm and I spotted the midriff cleavage.

So near but yet so far.. back to the drawing board for us all.. **sob**

    • Glam Dixie

Aw man, I was fully on board with this until the last picture when I saw the strip of belly skin. Ew. I still like it a lot, just a bit less than before. For Lea, this is practically a church outfit.

      • Trent

Right? I was all “Lea’s covered up! The Apocalypse is nigh!” and then I saw that the skirt was a size too small and she was wearing a midriff top from Forever 21. So…of course?

    • Josefina Madariaga Suárez

It almost makes me sad to know she won’t be able to translate this look to a red carpet, but she looks amazing right now and that’s all that matters.

    • hughman

With that jacket I want her to break into a chorus of “Beat It”.

    • @Biting Panda

I hate that she is the one wearing this sensational ensemble.

    • gayle

This is absolutely an improvement for her but the skirt is definitely too tight. Also no to the crop top, there had to be a better option but I guess the need to show skin in some way won out again.

    • LadyVimes

Well look at her all prim and proper. Nods of approval, dear.

    • alyce1213

Cute, better, but a big NO to the white pumps.

    • Lisalady161

Don’t care for her much as a performer, but she looks like she should now…modern Marlo Thomas. Attagirl.

      • poggi

        Maybe it’s a ‘Thattagirl’

    • SugarSnap108

I like the Michael Jackson jacket, but really hate it with that skirt and shoes.

    • tallgirl1204

      Baby steps.

    • 25or6to4

Did she do something to her hair? Or is it the lighting? Whatever it is, it looks so much better than the ombré-surprise she’s been sporting recently. Also, bits and pieces of her outfit are working for me (especially the MJ jacket), and those sunglasses suit her perfectly. Snaps for improvement!

    • random_poster

I just spent the last couple of minutes coming up with a T Lo gang sign. I think I got it!

      • Sarah

I, too, immediately fell for the suggestion. We should all flash it intermittently when out and about, just in case a BK is lurking nearby…

      • FibonacciSequins

        Haha, so did I.

    • Danielle

Yes, this. More of this, dear.

    • Sarah

I wish it was just a tank. What’s wrong with a tank? A tank wishes it could do the job, and is hurt that it was eschewed for a bandeau.

    • gitchygitchymama

it’s like Ramona and Suzan Lucci had a love child. How old is this chick????????

    • Imasewsure

“Lea, if it was us, just spell out T L O with your fingers, gang-style the next time you’re papped”

You are doing the Lord’s work, dear uncles and we are all better for it (and especially Lea)

    • Janet B

      Atta girl!

    • ktr33

Didn’t notice the midriff till last pic, and then heaved a sigh, BUT STILL — she is tiptoeing towards some templates she can use and build on. And once again, I will acknowledge I am delusional but I tweeted her to stop dressing so “I’m-so-hot” and the next thing we saw, she was in that cute little dirndle-y dress. And then I tweeted her some positive reinforcement, and she showed up in the jeans and little jacket. (All fueled Is by my obsessive visits to TLo of course.)
Is it a fluke? will she destroy our trust with the next hoochie look? Stay tuned…

    • MilaXX

It’s a better outfit, but since she is always bordering just outside of irrational hate for me, I’m just tired of seeing her. This poledance she is doing to promote her cd is wearing me out. I can’t take seeing her everywhere.

      • @Biting Panda

        A fucking men.

      • alyce1213

It’s not just the CD. She wrote a book, Brunette Ambition, for which is is also poledancing. Hence, the heavy saturation.
I’ve seen too much of her too, even if the outfits are a little better.

        • MilaXX

That explains why she is seemingly everywhere.

          • demidaemon

Plus her horrible animated Wizard of Oz movie….

    • myandyleigh

Does anyone else think that skirt is evil? I mean, look at it in that last pic. The waist is super tight, resulting in a muffin uprising, but then it swings wide through the hips and thighs, making a kind of bubble, then it dives back in to strangle her knees. And there’s another bit of flaring at the hem. Why would anyone think a skirt shaped like that would be attractive, and on whom? I mean, that girl’s just a wisp, you have to work at it to make a muffin on a waist like that.

      What fresh hell is this?

      • http://www.snoskred.org/ Snoskred

Muffin uprising.. is that like a bakery apocalypse, lol. :)

This should be added to our list of band names stolen from fabulous comments on TLO.

        • majorbedhead

The Muffin Uprising would be a great name for a subversive bakery.

          • Isabel

No, for the TLo rock band.

    • musi_

In love with that skirt. I like her when she wears clothes.

    • Valdri8

That jacket is so sick – I want it so bad for my date with Tim Riggins

    • Glammie

She-she’s covered up! Thank you oh deities of fashion!

    • Constant Reader

Not perfect, but It’s a step in the right direction for sure.

    • frannyprof

Love everything but the crop top.

    • suzq

A longer top would have covered up the muffin. The skirt and jacket are simply perfection. I have to thank her for not wearing the top that allegedly goes with it.

    • semirose

That jacket might be the best thing I’ve seen this week. I’m in love.

    • largishbearishAtlish

And then I saw the bare midriff… ugh. Fail.

    • demidaemon

Doesn’t this make her three non-horrible outfits in a row? I’m just verklempt about it. FINALLY. Please, please, please keep this up, Lea.

      • ktr33

        Shh! Don’t jinx it!

    • boweryboy

Maybe it’s the shock of seeing her actually clothed for once.

    • Irene Palma

If that’s muffin top it’s the cutest damn muffin top I’ve ever seen. That’s aspirational muffin top.

    • The Counselor

The print of that skirt: brought to you by the opening sequence of Orphan Black.

    • holla

hate the tube top, but everything else is a win.

    • jay

I would absolutely commit murder for that jacket. Holy shit.

    • Joanna

While I applaud her resistance to show all of the goods this time, there is not one thing I like about this outfit. Except the jacket.

    • decormaven

En pointe. She’s nailed it here.

    • nannypoo

Better than usual. Still with the little underchin wave that pisses me off. She needs her own category – I’m pretty sure no one wants to be her or do her.

    • Lilithcat

Love the jacket, and kudos to her for getting rid of that ankle strap, but I really dislike the strip of belly. That’s a trend that cannot disappear too quickly for me.

      • Isabel

Baby steps. Next week, maybe, she will have a full top. But it’s great progress, n’est pas?

      • VicD

I looked at this and said “nailed it!” out loud. And then I saw that the top was a midriff. So let’s go with “almost nailed it.”

    • marlie

Could it be that she or her stylist have started reading this site?!?! She looks great. I don’t even like the skirt and jacket together, but overall I’m just so happy that she’s not an “of course.”

    • bhl_1123

      *Slow standing clap*

    • FancyPhilly

Adorable, and I can’t help feeling that she has someone in her group reading this website.

    • bluefish

      Very, very cute.

    • formerlyAnon

New stylist? New willingness to be guided? Read TLo? In any case, awesome.

    • Kristin

This was cuter when I thought it was a dress or at least a full top. The belly skin is ick to me. But she does look fantastic. A++ for effort, Lea.

    • Crystal

Oh my god not only are pigs flying, but they are flying helicopters.

    • Claire

Swap out the tube top for a white tank, and I would wear that to work in a heartbeat.

    • Emily Smith

Well now I’m just trying to figure out how to spell T LO with my hands.

    • Julie C

Although I’m sure the bag cost more than my mortgage, is it wrong of me to say it looks like something you could pick up at TJ Maxx for 29.99? Just say’n.

    • colleenjanel

How many of us just stopped scrolling to try and create a gang sign??

      **raises hand**

    • LeelaST

I was thrilled with this look for her until I read “muffin top.” I actually hadn’t noticed the bare midriff…which says this is a really cute look! But she needs a different full-coverage top.

    • Swiftlytiltingplanet

I want that jacket. So much!

    • Andrea Lentz

      She looks amazing!

    • HM3

      She looks great.
“Papped” is an unpleasant verb. Anyone who is a lady person will understand.
