The shoes are looking a little beat and we don’t care how trendy it is to wear them semi-loose at the moment, ties need to be secure against the collar if the top button is done. But aside from that, he looks pretty spectacular. This could’ve gone boring and business-like, but the blue shirt pulls it back from the abyss. We’re still not loving the return of the ’90s menswear tone-on-tone trend, but if you’re going to wear nothing but different shades of the same color, this is the way to do it.

Still, we would’ve loved an orange or pink tie here. That and a new pair of shoes could’ve turned this into a BoyWERQ.

    • @Biting Panda

Mmmmmm Hmmmmm….this one blows my skirt up.

    • marlie

Man, this one totally does it for me. He’s a cutie. And yeah, I like the suit too.

      • Carleenml

totally unexplainable crush on this boy forevuh. can’t explain it/not my type/etc.

        • Denise Alden

I get that. He seems to be cut from the Ewan McGregor cloth, so maybe that explains it?

          • queen b*tch

Where can I get me some of that cloth?!

          • Soozables

So true! Both are on my top 5 list forever…beautiful boys!

    • Beardslee

He was born the year I went to college, but I don’t care. He is dreamy. Agree about the shoes, though.

    • MilaXX

I like the looks but I’d love it if there was a print or contrasting color tie and he had taken some shoe polish to his footwear.

      • Trent

EXACTLY. Great suit but why do the guystars all have to be so monochromatic these days? Did the stylists all get together and put a fatwa on color?

    • demidaemon

      ADORABLE.

      • kmk05

Is it terrible that I think his eyes are the perfect accessory to the entire tone-on-tone theme going on here?

        • demidaemon

          Not at all.

    • http://smalltownbigwardrobe.com/ Catherine

God I love him. If any Kittens haven’t seen him in Shameless (the UK’s version), most of the series is on Netflix, and he is amazing in it. Actually, the whole show is amazing.

      • boweryboy

        I tried.

It does seem like a great show, but I had a hard time understanding a lot of the accents and I didn’t see a subtitle option so I lost interest after the fourth or fifth episode.

        • http://smalltownbigwardrobe.com/ Catherine

Totally had to use the subtitles (I can’t remember if this was on Netflix or on the DVDs because yes I own the first season on DVD).

      • jabes

He is sexy as hell in that show.

      • altermyego

Did you know he married the actress that played Fiona? So romantic. Lucky lady.

        • Kent Roby

He married a costar? Wow, how very…expected.

        • http://smalltownbigwardrobe.com/ Catherine

I did know that! There’s a great interview he did with Craig Ferguson where he said they actually met during their first sex scene. I thought that was so funny. She’s a very lucky lady.

    • TM

I spent most of junior year of high school watching James McAvoy movies and practicing a painfully bad Scottish accent. Starter for 10? Ugh, he gets a pass for life (though he doesn’t need it obvi, he looks perfect.)

      • sk8tfan

I remember reading an interview with him where his agent told him to dial down his accent because the money was in America and American’s didn’t think he was speaking English.

    • Lily

Someone get me the smelling salts. I thought Fassy looked delish, but McAvoy. I’ll take two, please. Make that a very dirty dozen.

    • KinoEye

Gorgeous man in gorgeous clothes. LOVE.

    • boweryboy

It still reads boring banker to me – just one with a bit more pizzazz than others.

      • lundibleu

I read it as “I want you to think I’m a boring banker, but… well, just you wait” :)

        • boweryboy

          I’m down with that. ☺

          • lundibleu

            :-)

Fits with the impression I have of him from seeing him interviewed.

    • Dandesun

I have a boundless yearning for him.

    • FibonacciSequins

Same complaints from me – wish he’d worn a shiny new pair of oxfords. The shoes he’s wearing are too creased to be fit for anything but jeans. Minor points off for the tie. An orange or a pink tie would have been lovely, but he does look quite good as is.

    • frannyprof

He does absolutely nothing for me. And I hate those shoes.

    • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

      Verra nice. Min approves.

    • Jen

He’s gorgeous, very much so in real life too! Ended up meeting him after a Scottish premiere of ‘Filth’- thought I was going to combust.

    • lunchcoma

Well, there’s something nice for the end of my workday. If only I had one of those at home…

    • MW

My soul is now healed, despite Lea Michele trying to crush it. I adore this guy more than I can say so I’m super happy about him pulling it together and being featured here.

    • JauntyJohn

      Oh my yes.
9.6 out of 10 on my personal score card.

    • Glam Dixie

This really brings out those baby blues. Lovely.

    • http://www.wilde-travels.com/ Jacob Marek

From the heart of my bottom, thank you for all of the man-posts on the TLo blog today. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

    • Alyssa

I’ve adored him since he played Mr. Tumnus…he’s matured well! This movie has lots of eye candy in it…can’t wait!

      • http://www.jaimieteekell.com/ Jaimie

I’ve adored him since Atonement. That library dress scene.

    • eruannalle

oh yes. i’ve been a huge fan of him for ages – such a charming and funny and sweet dude. i agree that he needed a better pair of shoes, but otherwise i’m really enjoying it.

    • lynnlee

I love tone on tone- especially in blues. He looks dreamy.

    • Brittney P

YAY! I’ve been hoping that y’all would feature James! Even beside Jackman, Fassbender, and Dinklage, McAvoy stands out. After X-Men First Class (which is the first time I saw him acting, I went through pretty much his entire filmography. Atonement left me weeping, Shameless was fantastic, and he’s too cute for words in Starter for Ten (plus many more)! Haven’t got around to seeing Filth yet, but it’s on my list.

    • Nika E

      DTF

    • BLauD

      Yes. Yes. Yes.

    • EEKstl

      YUMMMMMMMY.

    • Danielle

      Hnnnnnnnng. Love the haircut.

    • kimmeister

Looks like he availed the services of a makeup person, right? His skin tone is looking more even compared to his usual RC appearances. I approve.

    • e jerry powell

But the blues pull so nicely to his eyes that I missed all the other problems.

    • Wink

Okay. I’m finally starting to see his appeal. (Better late than never, I suppose.)

    • amanda siegelson

an orange tie would have been to die for! oh man, someone please do that!

    • http://www.chifleschips.com Stefanie Argudo Mackenzie

Rain on the collar isn’t nice, but he has nocontrol over that.

      • sk8tfan

Even the girl standing behind him picking her nose had an umbrella; wonder where his assistant went.

    • jonnyf8

Wow! My fantasy was instead of killing Matthew Crawley they replace him with this guy. We would have forgotten Dan or Darrin or whatever-his-name is in no time.

    • Jeremy Thomas Porta

This man is a total stud pie.

    • Shelby

      I can’t help it. I think he’s so cute.

    • greymain

      uh…neck beard?????otherwise not terrible.

    • Shawn EH

He always looks like an elf to me. It’s ridiculous he’s not in the The Hobbit. But those eyes and that shirt, that is some crafty work right there!

    • aquamarine17

i think the shirt would be nice in another color. a lot of men look good in a certain shade of pink shirt, a ballet pink, sort of a very pale salmon. i would like that with this suit. just adore seeing Mr. McAvoy!

    • sk8tfan

Great haircut, too. That shirt color really makes his eyes look like limpid pools…but where is Mr. Tumnus’ umbrella when you need it?

    • Laura

Love him in pretty much everything! If you haven’t seen the British miniseries State of Play (which was redone in an American version), he is fantastic.

      • Heatherbelle

Oh my, he was wonderful in that – State of Play was a thrilling mini-series. My adoration for him dates from then. And he was wonderful in the BBC Radio adaption of Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere, even though you can’t see him – that voice!

    • Mrs. O

Child, learn to tie a proper full Windsor. But I like that his shoes are a little scuffed, seems to indicate that he isn’t too wrapped up in looks. Adorable.

    • Janet B

Love the blue shirt on him. I interesting how red his sideburns look.

    • LadyVimes

10 out of 10 would bang. Even in all blue.

    • quiltrx

What IS it about this one? He’s *almost* got that boy-waif thing that I really, really don’t care for. But there’s something about him that kind of lights my fire, too.
I think part of it must be the “I’m thinking something naughty” smile. And man, in that 4th picture? That brow furrow is giving me a “Russell Crowe’s younger brother” vibe that I really dig.

      • malarson2

Agree completely. He is against everything I normally find hot. And yet… Watch him in Becoming Jane (if you haven’t already). Holy hell.

    • unbornfawn

I’ll forgive the tone on tone because he is looking pretty well put together and the pants are hemmed. So close with the knot in the tie – thanks for saying something uncles.

    • Jacob Bowen

Clearly T & Lo knew I missed Sausage Friday and that my travel day has been hella long, because this is a gift from TLo heaven. Love you SO much right now.

    • GeoDiva

So there is at least one tailor out there who knows how to properly hem men’s pants! I was beginning to think they were mythical creatures like a unicorn.

    • &theJets

      J’adore.

    • CeeQ

      Ooohhhh yum.

    • MannahattaMamma

Adorbs but perhaps a tad petulant about the mouth? Nice suit, nice hair, and the shoes don’t bother me – would rather beat-up shoes than shoes that still have the sticker on the bottom.

    • MartyBellerMask

I’ll start off by admitting that I haven’t watched an X-Men movie since the first two, so I’ve yet to see him in action.
But I just want to say, that based on looks, I would have thought Fassbender & McAvoy’s roles were switched. McAvoy seems to physically resemble McKellen & Fassbender favors Stewart, IMO. Again, this is just based on looks, and not on talent. I’m sure they are wonderful in their roles.

    • Shug

      Uggghhhh ladyboner

    • jahphotogal

Did someone throw a drink on him? What are those splotches on his shoulder?

    • Chuck Barthelme

Completely agree on the tie. And I HATE the knot. Skinny tie should get the full windsor treatment. Or a pratt knot at the very least. I get that they’re styling him for sort of rakish chic, but still.

    • Laura Abrahamsen

      One blue too many…

    • BitterOldQueen

I think he’s perfect, even when wet.

    • JP

It’s not a grey suit — that alone thrills me!

    • holla

this is a small quibble and not at all about just him, but why can’t the men tie a double Windsor knot for the formal events?

    • MissAmynae

      Delicious.
