Emily Blunt Style Double Shot

Posted on May 28, 2014

We feel like it’s been far too long since Miss Emily poledanced in front of us, wearing a succession of cute dresses. It’s time to come home, Emily.

You don’t have to bring Tom Cruise with you, though. Also, we’re a little concerned about your shoe situation and feel it’s time to have a talk.

Ridiculously crazy-cute. LOVE this dress on her. Push that thing off you, girl, and stand still so we can get a good look at you. We’re not supercrazy about the Michelle Obama-style super-matched shoes, but it’s a dress that calls out for cohesiveness in the styling. A pop of color shoe would’ve been very wrong.

Still, if one must match, then we wish she’d picked the yellow to match to. Also, suede seems a bit heavy for this look.

Again with the suede matchy shoes. These hurt our feelings. Matching to the PINK? Oh, no, no, no. This won’t do at all. That dress is KILLA and if you have to match, we suggest any other color BUT the pink. Red, blue or even white would’ve looked more sophisticated to us. And why suede with a strapless dress? It just looks … off.

    • conniemd

Two great dresses. I think they screamed for some slingback summer pumps.

      • Rhonda Shore

Yes, with kitten heels! The two dresses couldn’t be more fantastic.

        • Isabel

I am seeing suede in summer sandals. Paul Green, for example.

    • Jessica Freeman

Adore the dresses. Actually don’t hate the shoes. It shouldn’t be all that surprising since the lady stars wore naked heels all winter and now that it’s summer start wearing suede pumps.

      • Michael Martin

I think she should’ve just swapped the shoes. Pink would’ve freshened up the day look and the blue plays off the red carpet dress much better. Otherwise they’re ok, other than the pink ones being comically too big for her feet.

    • Sophie

I absolutely love the first one. Not crazy about the second one, I don’t think it’s so flattering, and the shoes bring it down even more.

      • sienna elm

I think the second dress would sing better if it were closer to knee length.

        • Sophie

True. I also prefer less busy prints, so this is really down to personal taste. I like the way the neckline echoes the red print parts, though.

          • sienna elm

Good eye! I didn’t notice that until you pointed it out.

        • smayper

Yeah, but it’s so refreshing to see a beautiful dress that isn’t so short the wearer couldn’t sit down or else floor length, that I am happy.

    • @Biting Panda

I love her too much to be objective. I am swooning over those dresses, and since the shoes are at least simple and non gimmicky, I’m just fine with them. I’m dying a little over that second dress.

      • marlie

At least we won’t have to fight; I’m dying a little over the first dress.

      • AnneElliot

Me too, I love her, almost irrationally. She’s smart and a badass, and she’s married to John Krasinski. What is not to love?

    • sienna elm

Love the scalloped neckline! And I think I love the first dress too, but would rather see it without that unfortunate accessory in drab.

      • kimmeister

At least the drab accessory doesn’t look like he stopped by after a Home Depot run.

      • CakesOnAPlane

I posted this elsewhere, but I wanted to wholeheartedly agree with you on the neckline – I have a (possibly irrational) fear of strapless dresses (the boob-pit, the slipdown, the constant need to hoik them up) and I feel like this neckline might possibly have convinced me to try out a scalloped necked strapless dress!

        • DuBey2

and we all say: NO to the hoiking

    • Anna

Good to see Emily out and about again. Her and John K are the celebrity couple I really want to be real-life best friends with, and imagine how awesome the extended family dinners with Stanley Tucci.

Love the dresses, hate the shoes.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

You mentioned one of my very fav movies- “Big Night” -My God, I could have eaten every course AND Stanley Tucci!

      • Jecca2244

she came with John one night when he was hosting an event in Boston and she was the NICEST. so honestly pleasant.

    • SugarSnap108

Completely agree on the shoes. Not only are they too matchy in color, but they also seem a tad heavy for the dresses — which are adorable, btw.

    • MissusBee

Second dress is amazing. Don’t get the shoes.

The bar in the first picture is a nice spot for a cocktail. My best friend thinks Nelson’s Column looks rude from up there because of the way his sword hilt or mariner’s rope or whatever sits in reference to his britches.

    • SewingSiren

Both dresses are very pretty, especially the first one. I don’t mind the color of the shoes, but the suede is wrong.

    • ashtangajunkie

I am living for the second dress, but the pepto-shoes were the wrong choice.

    • Alyssa

I love both these dresses, and would *die* if they somehow jumped into my closet. Shoes are totally wrong, but I have the perfect shoes already. :)

    • flamingoNW

Man, she looks FAB in that second dress. Hair perfect too. LLLLLOVE that dress.

    • Mrs. Julien

Is there a name for the style of the pink shoes? Is it d’orsay?

    • CakesOnAPlane

that strapless dress has the first neckline in the history of strapless dresses that make me consider trying a strapless dress without fear of the dreaded boob-pit or slippage. It’s given me hope – well done, dress!

    • http://www.what-the-frock.com Dana F.

It’s like she’s attending the Lupita Nyong’o school of matchy shoe pairings.

    • Emily Dagger

Not only are those both amazing dresses, they both have POCKETS. I am dying of envy.

For the shoes, I’m forcing myself to imagine that she has foot issues (as do I) that limit her shoe options, and these suede thingies are the only ones she’s found that are comfortable, so she’s got them in every color.

      • kmk05

The pockets are to die for! I wish I could rip that second dress off her right now and run away with it.

    • kimmeister

I love the print of the first dress, but I think I don’t like how the seams open up into the pleats. It causes too much volume for my taste.

      • demidaemon

That’s one of my favorite parts of the design. We may have to disagree. :(

        • kimmeister

Is this the first time we’ve ever disagreed???

          • demidaemon

            I DON’T KNOW! ;)

      • DuBey2

Something about the seams altogether in that dress bugs. reminds me of something I used to see that was not fashionable, I just can’t remember what.

    • Scimommy

Gorgeous dresses. I’m imagining ivory sandals or slingbacks with the first dress.

    • Janet B

She looks beautiful, happy to see print dresses.
I’m not so happy with the suede shoes (or the corduroy jacket).

    • BLauD

Those dresses. Oh heavens. Love the first one without reservation. Really like the second, but it seems too heavy – maybe it’s the length?

    • crash1212

Love both looks. Don’t hate the shoes.

    • YoungSally

She’s adorable — he is not looking his best….I saw some comparison (was it on TLo?) suggesting that he looks more and more like Travolta every day.

      • AnaRoW

        He doesn’t look THAT bad.

        • formerlyAnon

          Not NEARLY that bad.

    • Wink

With her hair down, her face looks a little like Sophia Vergara.

    • kmk05

She’s KILLING it. I can even forgive the shoes, because the posing, the face and the hair are effortlessly fabulous.

I wish she would stand further away from him.

      • decormaven

“How do you feel about Cleveland?”

        • Sofia

i love Tootsie. well done, you!

          • decormaven

I do, too. Thanks for spotting it!

    • Kathy

I like both looks, except with the second one, her boobs are flattened. Yeah, shoes are not the best.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

I love both dresses – probably would have chosen a chestnut leather kitten-heel sandal with the first and pulled the blue out for the second. Pointy-toed suede pumps get grubby so quickly – those pink ones are already marked.

    • smh4748

Wow. I love these both so much! Between a cutie-pie husband and these dresses, this lady’s got it made.

      • holla

plus she’s got a sense of humor. Girl’s got it all!

    • bitchybitchybitchy

Red or blue shoes with the second dress would have been great. Love, love that Oscar de la Renta dress-that just landed in my fantasy closet of clothes I’d love to wear.

    • B_C_J

Gorgeous, feminine dresses! She looks lovely. The Oscar is my favorite of the two. The blue heels don’t bother me but the pink ones are too attention pulling.

    • Samantha Klein

I feel like she could have swapped the shoes out? I know the pink doesn’t totally match Dress #1, but they wouldn’t have clashed horribly, right?

      • scurvey

Yeah, swap the shoes. There are some pink bits in the petals of the first dress; could work. Still not sure about the suede. Cute dresses both of them.

    • Reine Bron

I really love the Oscar de la renta dress

    • TAGinMO

I can’t be the only one who thinks the hair in look #2 is a far greater sin than the shoes, can I?

    • jilly_d

I’m a little confused by that first dress – why would you take a lovely print and then chop it to hell with seaming? She does look lovely in both, though. Shame about the shoes.

    • KinoEye

I want both of these dresses, but girl can keep the heavy suede shoes. Especially the pink ones, which look huge and clunky from the back. A needle scratch on an otherwise stunning look.

    • ktr33

cute cute cute dresses. would wear either in a hot minute. I’d rather see her with her legally married arm candy instead. Agree with TL about the shoes, but they certainly don’t kill either look for me.

    • Jennifer Bober

Both dresses are fantastic, but yeah, the shoe choices could have been better.

    • Denise Rambo

LOVE LOVE LOVE the dresses! Agree about the suede shoes … not with strapless and especially not at THIS time of year. Another pet peeve … those pink shoes are TOO BIG. WHY are the shoes always TOO BIG?

    • http://www.readbarbara.com/ ReadBarbara

She’s gorgeous and these dresses are phenomenal on her. Didn’t she just have a baby not that long ago? Sheesh…

    • teensmom99

I find I’ve been wearing more and more suede shoes because sometimes that’s what I can afford in a cute shoe. Presumably EB does not have the same problem. Perhaps it’s a British thing . . . And while I think she’d do better with a summery sandal or slingback, the materials of her dresses aren’t heavy so I think the combo is not bad–the worst part of it all is that it is late spring. If she wore these dresses with those shoes earlier in the year (like winter in LA) it would look good. And I’m not opposed to the matchiness but that’s probably because Emily looks so great in the dresses (particularly the de la Renta).

    • alyce1213

She looks gorgeous. Beautiful dresses, wonderful fabrics and prints. The second, I think, hits too high on her chest and elongates as well, so maybe if it were cut a little lower it would appear less flattening. I almost unreservedly adore suede shoes –it’s a weakness. The navy are fine, but those pink ones were not the best choice.

    • MannahattaMamma

Dresses with pockets. Am in heaven. But didn’t she say a few years back that she’d never be in a Tom Cruise movie…? hmm.

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

Did she? That’s hilarious… bet her agent tried to get all references to that deleted!

    • decormaven

Two great looks, right out of the gate. I’m not even too disturbed by the shoes because the dresses are so cute. But why in the world is he dressed in such a heavy jacket? That was a real style disconnect, given she’s in a summer look.

    • JynxTheCat

      SUEDE? What the?

    • Sarah

Didn’t she give birth like two weeks ago? Lucky genes I guess. Love both dresses, but not suede in summer.

      • scoobynacks

3.5 months ago, but still, looks great.

    • Imasewsure

Fantastic dresses but Lupita shoes…. too bad

    • robin-m

I think the suede shoes = fall/winter equation is changing. Hmm. Kind of like the juxtaposition of the smooth silk with the velvety suede, but agree yellow shoes (even yellow suede shoes) would have been more interesting with the first look.

    • Danielle

We share a love of pockets! I would sell a kidney for that Oscar de la Renta dress.

    • MilaXX

I think both looks are vet Lupita like. I could easily see her wearing both theses looks. Love the first look, match shoe included. The second look isn’t as great. The bodice flattens her boobs , and the pink shoe is not only too matchy, it’s ugly and a size too big.

    • FibonacciSequins

If I had to pic one dress over the other, I’d pick the first. Gorgeous. The second is okay, the bodice weirdly flattens her boobs though. I think the colors flatter her. I’m partial to suede shoes in general, so I’m okay with that too.

    • KiP07

Resort 2015! I guess a fashionista’s gotta wear stuff FRESH off the runway!

    • gitchygitchymama

Their dye jobs compliment each other.

    • Annmarie Kane

Love Love LOVE the looks. Shoes included!!!

    • annmartina

Tom looks like he’s gotten the name of Nicole’s injectionist

    • majorbedhead

The hair in the second look is tragic. And the shoes in the second look need to be burned.

    • demidaemon

LOVE the first dress. Now, if we could only crop out the Cruise…

Second dress is an enh for me. The hair and shoe situation may be contributing to my overall dislike of the look.

    • Synnae

Great dresses, horrific shoes both in colour and material. Find yourself a better stylist girl!

    • PrettyBlueFox

How are those giant pink shoes even staying on her feet as she walks down the red carpet? Do celebrities secrete magic foot sweat with adhesive properties? Because so many of them wear these too big (I assume sample size) shoes.

    • formerlyAnon

I love the first dress, like the second fine, but the print and the fabric’s sheen are carrying it. The shape is unexciting.

I think the suede is someone’s attempt to match without being too matchy-matchy. I think it looks fine in the first case, a tad – not quite “off,” but “not finished by professionals” in the second.

    • unbornfawn

Especially like the blue dress. Yes, please push that hairball hanging all over you into the background, so we can get a good look at you, OK?

    • TwiddlyStun

I know we take off points for matching, but I add a bazillion points for not showing toe cleavage so she’s still ahead.

    • GillianHolroyd

Heavens, white shoes with the 2nd look would have cheapened it. Red, and her feet would’ve sunk into the carpet (as the stiletto is doing). I like the pink, if not the suede. Maybe the pale purply-blue of the print’s background?

    • Jecca2244

i’m actually wearing a pair of Michael Kors suede high-heeled sandals. not heavy or hot. very comfy.

    • smayper

Thrilled to see simple shapes and gorgeous fabrics with no unnecessary horribleness.

    • LadyVimes

Get rid of the barnacle, girlie. He’s bringing your style down.

    • DeTrop

I think she looks fab. – shoes and all.

    • DesertDweller79

I love both of these dresses. Love the neckline on the second one. Love the longer length, too. Very interesting! Shoes are all wrong. Too heavy.

    • quiltrx

Both really cute dresses! Love seeing prints on the RC, and these are both pretty stellar.
And are we really going to quibble with her (admittedly problematic) suede shoes when he is wearing a CORDUROY blazer???

      • snarkykitten

        and jeans!

        • quiltrx

Ugh, he ALWAYS wears jeans to these things…part of his “I’m so butch I just left Home Depot and came on over here” schtick.

    • Jackie4g

If you can get pastel suede pumps, I don’t think it’s the worst thing in the world.

    • snarkykitten

Gentleman and lady stars: HANDS OUT OF POCKETS!

    • marlie

I love the OdlR dress. LOVE. I need to start pinching my pennies. I’m not even mad at the matchy shoes, though suede is definitely off for this season. The second dress is pretty too, but there are a couple of tiny things about the fit that bug me a little. But the color of the shoes for THAT dress is all wrong; it almost seems like they don’t match.

    • andi56

I just like them, because they have pockets.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gaby

GRABBY HANDS: Gimme dat Oscar De La Renta or the man muppet gets it.

    • lbl

Glad to know I wasn’t the only one bothered by the suede shoe. They look especially weird because these are such perfect springtime dresses.

The second outfit is my favorite.

    • cocohall

Our lady gave birth to a small human mere months ago. I can forgive her the matchy shoes and the suede. She looks put together and lovely, and that’s more than many lady stars can manage with no baby involved. She and Mr. Tucci are the best parts of Devil Wears Prada in my book, and I will have no words against her. And although Salmon Fishing in the Yemen is a deeply silly movie, she and Ewan McGregor are pure charm.

    • suzq

Those dresses are amazing. I can’t even look at the shoes. Fix your hair, sweetie. You look darling!

    • malarson2

      I irrationally LOVE her.

    • Stella Schinnour

Love her style. Yeah the dresses do need sling backs. The dresses are fabulous.

    • Coleslaw McGraw

I am not in love with the first look. It looks very heavy, like it is made out of bark cloth, or some other 60s era upholstery fabric. It is stiff and unforgiving (much like my x, but whatevers) and I do like the second dress (agree about the pinky pink shoes) it is a little softer and less looking like someone’s sun room furniture.

      ALSO: WTF HAIR?!
