Amber Heard in Vionnet at the “Two Days, One Night” Cannes Premiere

Posted on May 21, 2014

Oh, thank God. She appears to do better on the style front when she’s away from her windchime.

It’s not slap-you-in-the-face gorgeous or anything, but it’s clean and chic, with some sparkle and movement to it. Perfect for a Cannes red carpet.  But the way she’s got that top tucked in is a crime. You just had to go and Johnny it up, didn’t you, Amber?

She looks really good, though not sure on the shoes. Can something really be called a bodysuit when it’s that loose? I always think that term refers to something far more form fitting.

    • kimmeister

It’s called a body suit because it goes down to her nether regions like a leotard. It’s a really, really stupid bodysuit.

    • alyce1213

      Shoes? Where?

  • Anne Elliot

what was she even doing there

    • charlotte

Doing whatever Boobs Legsly was doing there.

    • FancyPhilly

lol, total Mean Girls moment. “She doesn’t even go here.”

  • hyperionic

I love those earrings on her.

  • Cynica

OMG, see that braid? Don’t take hairstyle tips from Johnny, dear.

    • Kayceed

You know he wanted to wind a leather cord through the braid and add some silver bits at the base. I think this is her showing restraint.

    • I remain convinced that Johnny Depp is taking style advice from a sea crab that lives in his wardrobe and now that sea crab is after Amber now…

      • I laughed out loud at this mental image! You win the internets today!

    • juniper

I don’t understand the side swept hair with the one side braid. I’m all for some asymmetry but how does that make sense? What hairs do you choose to braid and what hairs get to be wild and free?

  • @Biting Panda

    Barely fancy GAP.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

You have nailed this. While I like the fabric of the skirt, the sloppy bodice of the bodysuit is hurting my eyes

      • 3boysful

I desperately want a metallic gazar skirt. The other PTA moms would be so jealous.

        • bitchybitchybitchy

Metallic gazar just sings, doesn’t it? I feel as if I should have this skirt for the days that I need to feel extra fabulous.

  • deelup

Based on how it’s fitting her I want to say this skirt is for models only. But ffs, isn’t she a model? I don’t know what to make of it.

    • Bad Idea Jeans

It doesn’t even look very good on the model. It kinda sucks.

      • deelup

No question it’s an odd garment. But at least it’s sort of flowing on the model. On Amber they seem to have put pleats in it or something?

        • Bad Idea Jeans

The seams are definitely different in the front on the version Amber is wearing. It also seems…too tight? Maybe that’s because of her bad tucking job. SHIRT-tucking.

  • Watching Drag Race has ruined average looking stars make up for me. I can see highlighting from heaven.

    • demidaemon

As it should! Drag queens, educating the world on everything.

  • KateShouldBeWorking

At least it’s better lined than the runway version.

    • AMEN, sister. My first thought!

    • AnaRoW

I don’t think it’s lined at all. I think it’s just the different lighting that makes it appear lined.

      • KateShouldBeWorking

        Shit, I think you’re right.

  • Baghag

  • kimmeister

I love love love Mary Janes, but I don’t think they’re red carpet shoes. Her face sure is purty though.

  • hughman

“I want to look like the cover of a Harlequin Star Wars Novel.”

  • lamamu

This is the best I’ve ever seen her look.

  • Sarah

That tuck ruins the whole damn thing (which is sayin’ a lot since I seem not to be bothered by the granny panties, which really should, by all rights, piss me off).

    • Ren

That’s the bottom half of the bodysuit (see model).

  • FibonacciSequins

Points off for the sloppy tuck. I’d like to steal that outfit (as if I had anywhere to wear it), and her hair and makeup are gorgeous.

    • Basically my exact thoughts on Courtney Act.

  • MilaXX

How do you screw up a body suit? She looks okay, but dassit! Also that hair is a crime against humanity. Why must there be random braids everywhere lately? Mermaid hair wasn’t enough?

    • decormaven

      The Power of Pinterest.

      • Loramir

        And the Forces of Frozen.

  • frannyprof

The hair ruins the whole look.

  • Yoshio

love the makeup and that lipstick is gorgeous on her.

  • demidaemon

Enh. I kind of hate it in its lameness and because of her style choices.

  • Imasewsure

She definitely looks better with out her beloved Windchime but I’m not loving the Veronica Lake hair in front and left over hair in back look. Also it’s sort of an Interesting skirt but not loving the top much. Modern I guess but meh

  • Imasewsure

    Those earrings are pretty fab

  • she’s one (much like Rose Byrne and Julianne Moore) who gets a pass on almost anything because I just get mesmerized by her FACE. It’s a pretty face. I’d like to walk around with that face for a week or two. Most all of them fail on the style front, but I forgive, because: PRETTY.

  • quiltrx

Yeah, the top-tuck was my quibble. I’m not wild about her but she looks better than usual.

  • DagnyReardon

If I had the chance to be on the red carpet at Cannes, I would not opt for a tee shirt and maxi skirt.

  • livesarah

Never would have guessed that someone could actually make that look work, given how shoddy it looks on the model, but she looks gorgeous.

  • GillianHolroyd

Why are we seeing two seams in front when the model seems to have one? That skirt looks sloppy. Balenciaga weeps.

  • SugarSnap108

I don’t like this look at all. The reach of The Windchime is great.

  • t bell

Is it supposed to look like that or should she be wearing a slip?

    • Lori

Both. It’s “supposed” to look like that—it’s sheer on the model. Nevertheless she should be wearing a slip/the skirt should be lined—this sheer over granny panties thing is so played out it’s not even funny any more and getting the granny panties look from a bodysuit instead of actual granny panties doesn’t change that in any way.

      • t bell

Thanks Lori. It just sort of reminded me of something my mother would put over her Jantzen at the beach before taking me to the snack bar.

        • Lori

Your mother was clearly a wiser woman than the person who came up with this skirt.

  • alyce1213

If someone’s going to attempt a clean, chic, spare look, it had better be perfectly tailored and fit impeccably. This does not accomplish either. She looks sloppy.

  • a_liking

she is sexy as hell, I can’t even complain.

  • Janet B

    Absolutely gorgeous earrings.

  • luludexter

“Johnny it up” – the opposite of WITFU!

  • jilly_d

  • bitchybitchybitchy

I think “Johnny it up” should be a new TLo shorthand for a celeb failing on the fashion front. Do I hear an amen on this?

    • formerlyAnon

For reasons I am not examining, my mind is convinced that “Johnny it up” is a euphemism for something extremely filthy, I just don’t know what. On that basis, I have to withhold my “amen.” 😉

      • bitchybitchybitchy

The phrase could conjure up filthy connotations, I grant you.

  • titaness25

    That is one fancy t-shirt.

  • ktr33

gorgeous face, stupid hair, pretty skirt that looks all twisted, badly tucked t.

  • holla

hair only looks good if I didn’t see the braid. wrong shoes. this could have been so much better if not for the back tuck.

  • LadyVimes

This is nice and breezy but took absolutely zero effort.

  • JynxTheCat

  • nannypoo

Her makeup is pretty. The hair and the sloppiness of the top make me sad.

  • Lindylou

Is it possible that the version the model is wearing is…pants? Hoping that’s just an optical illusion.

  • thatch pheasant

The hair is AWFUL. What’s with this goofy sideswipe look? Talk about overdone and over studied. Very self-conscious girl.

  • sleepycat

you could accuse me of being sloppy in my style (shorts and t-shirt weather permitting and either my slipons or a pair of sandals that don’t make my feet swell), HOWEVER, she is on the red carpet in Cannes, no excuse to look like you just threw things on five minutes ago and didn’t bother to get them in the right place. (I feel like I’m creating a double standard here that may or may not exist). Also no offense to my undergrad, but she looks like she could be hanging in a hammock on the mounds.

  • thatch pheasant

Terrible this an attempt to look like a model?

  • thatch pheasant

Geez. Did someone pin a braid in there somewhere?

  • St. Ace

She looks young, clean, and fresh here.

  • BayTampaBay

    Much improved!

  • MarissaLG

That designer would get read on Project Runway for the top.
“It seems like an afterthought” – Nina
“Be honest, you ran out of time.” – Michael
“It could be shorter, no?” – Heidi

  • DeTrop

    Sloppy looking.

BTW, Do you HAVE to wear granny panties under the skirt? Not a good look imo.

  • boweryboy

I hate it. I don’t think it looks chic at all. It looks like a cheap oversized Fruit of the Loom t-shirt that she tucked into a pair of Spanx underneath a peice of shiny fabric she wrapped around her waist.

  • Danielle

She just couldn’t help herself with that braid, could she?

  • crash1212

That head is pretty much perfection to my eye.

  • Roz

I like this look–she’s young and it works. But I can just see Johnny giving Amber the once over and tugging that T-shirt into an “artful” untuck.

  • Shug

I love and need that outfit. That skirt is amazing.

  • lalahartma

    The skirt is pulling strangely.

  • formerlyAnon

Back in the day, I had that tuck in problem with tops and a bodysuit was the SOLUTION.

  • ThaliaMenninger

A thousand women are looking for something like this to wear when they get married on a beach. Or don’t get married on a beach but want to look like they are.

  • snarkykitten

No. this is awful. Mosquito netting the color of old bras.

  • the shape is lovely on her, but it looks like she dipped it in dirty dishwater. and i’d kill for those earrings, but clips? ouchy! how my mom wore those all day i’ll never know.
