Chloë Grace Moretz in Christopher Kane on “The Today Show”

Posted on April 17, 2014

Since we called her dress ugly yesterday (#sorrynotsorry because it was), we’ll do her a solid and feature something of hers that’s not perfect exactly, but much cuter:

As it so often does, it all goes wrong below the ankles.  Everything above that is cute and youthful and kinda chic in that hi-lo, deliberately mismatched kind of way. But she needed a fun, playful kind of show. Those shoes are ready for a night out. A cute flat or wedge would’ve been a much better choice. If nothing else, get rid of the stripes because they’re fighting with the skirt.

Also, your hair’s kind of a mess, hon.

But still! Cute look! Just put on a pair of kicks and pull that hair back into a ponytail and you’ll be good to go.

I thought her sweatshirt said PETA at first and I was like, “GURL, NO.” Cathy Cambridge’s wedges might look good with this.

    • Darcy H

That was my exact reaction! “Oh girl nooooooooooo, not PET- aaaah, it says petal. Well that’s ok then.”

Unfortunately then I actually looked at what she was wearing. Hate to disagree with the Uncles, but this goes all wrong well before the ankles.

      • Evan

I’m all for the ethical treatment of animals, but PETA is crazy to the point of extremism. I could no longer take them seriously at all once the head of PETA described Pamela Anderson as their “Weapon of Mass Destruction.” My reaction was, “Only if her fake tits explode.”

    • SugarSnap108

Yeah, I thought it was PETA with an exclamation point, because even a PETA sweatshirt would yell.

  • VicD

No, that’s horrible. Forget the pity. Why would she wear a fungus green and brown skirt? And with a pink sweater that says “PETAL”? This just seems like a continuation of the bad from yesterday.

    • kimmeister

The sweater is just stupid on principle.

    • Danielle

I think the skirt is green and the “brown” are sheer panels with her legs peeking through.

      • demidaemon

Well, that just makes it worse because it looks like she wrapped a shower curtain around her waist.

        • Danielle

And now that I’m squinting at the screen, I think the letters in her sweatshirt (!!!) are sheer lace. Not feeling this at all.

          • demidaemon

I think you are right, which is only seconding my first opinion of this outfit: WRONG! WRONG! WRONG! AND UGLY!

      • VicD

OKAAAAYYYYY, well that explains why the “brown” looks different on her than on the model. Christ on cracker (thank you Pete Campbell), that is even worse that I thought, and I really hate it now. I think the uncles must be in need of a long weekend to recover from their hectic travels and important posting updates (Mad Men X 2, and RPDR X 2, bridal fashion shows and MTV Awards – I’m exhausted for them!), because they absolutely cannot be getting soft!

  • LeelaST

Don’t get the outfit at all, looks like a horrible logo sweatshirt worn with a beautiful mis-matched skirt. Shoes are okay, not crazy about a T-strap, but as TLo said “stripes” – YIKES.

  • hughman

Walking like you’re wearing handcuffs and being led to an arraignment is a very odd choice for a photo op.

    • Glam Dixie

Yes, that’s it exactly! And they confiscated her hairbrush.

    • BLauD

Yes! The crossed hands and weird facial expression seem like she must be really uncomfortable/slightly embarrassed to be caught this way.

    • schadenfreudelicious

      Perp walk…

    • MissKimP

Yes! I was looking for clues that the handcuffs had been photoshopped out 🙂

    • girliecue

Geez, I hope she’s not practicing for an upcoming Bad Starlet phase!

    • VicD

Isn’t she just trying to cover her lady parts from prying eyes?

  • Glam Dixie

My kingdom for a hairbrush! Cute shoes but not with this, not really digging this outfit either.

  • CB

    dafuq is “PETAL”?

    • sagecreek

I thought at first it was PETA, and was kind of relieved to see the “L”.

    • Madam Von Sassypants

Exactly my response! It reminds me of the bad English translations on Chinese fashion retailer sites. Those are amazing.

      • SugarSnap108

I think the best English translation I’ve ever seen was a restaurant in Korea by the name of Tuna and People.

    • SugarSnap108

People for the Ethical Treatment of Al?

  • Paigealicious

    Fug. #sorrynotsorry

    • demidaemon

      AGREED. #sorrynotsorry

  • marlie

I really don’t like the top. I would have switched that out with something different, but kept the skirt and shoes. And sweetie needs to brush her hair.

  • I actually think she looks all right. Am intrigued by the dreamy/innocent look (suggested by “PETAL”) like her feet don’t actually touch the NYC pavement, she’s just gently fanned along by her handlers from one place to the next.

  • More shots from “The Carrie Diaries”? Oh, wait. Sorry.

  • demidaemon

I’m sorry, but I think this is pretty hideous too. Age-appropriate, yes. Something that she should be ashamed of later in life (perhaps tomorrow): OH YES.

  • Imasewsure

Love all the pieces but none together. That hair is a no even for daytime tv

  • decormaven

She’s a very pretty young woman, but this does her no justice. Trusting the Today people primped her hair before on camera.

  • BellaLuv

Brandy should have borrowed these shoes for her outfit !

  • nannypoo

Her face looks good but I do not understand even one thing that she is wearing.

  • MilaXX

Kate Middleton’s wedge would have worked better. I’m hoping the hair is just windblown.Outfit is cute.

  • Lex

I think that hairstyle is what is referred to as “artfully disheveled.” Ya know, as in they did it like that on purpose but pretend she just rolled out of bed, kind of like buying pre-ripped jeans

  • ashtangajunkie

I want to like this, but it makes no sense to me.

  • That skirt is pretty much the coolest, but it desperately needed to be hemmed because its proportions are not ones she can pull off.

  • cocohall

Keep the shoes, burn the rest.

  • MW

Um, no. Keep the shoes and start again.

  • Sorry, I was focusing on the hot ginger handler. Do they ALL get one? Is it part of some prize package for becoming famous? Can I get one too, or do I have to be famous first?

    • Hetha Innis

Ha! I saw him too and wondered if T and Lo are still recovering from their adventures since they made no comment!

    • boweryboy

Thank you. He was primarily what I was focusing on. I want a hot ginger handler too.

  • Malia C.

Oh I was hoping you’d feature this. I saw her live and thought it looked super-cute sitting down. Standing and walking, I’m not as enamoured, but for the purpose of the interview, it worked well.

  • FridaStaire

Oh she does look lovely – but also like she’s under arrest. Or having a Fifty Shades fantasy?

  • macwell

    Those shoes are everything.

  • Carrie Bradshaw clothes, down to the shoes.

  • Jai Piper

An outfit straight off the runway . . and she paid a stylist for this???

  • Sophie

I like the print/cutouts in her skirt, they look like wallpaper from the beginning of the century. I dislike the colour of the skirt, the sweater with lace text, the shoes, the pose.

  • lilazander

I don’t get the sweatshirt-pleated-midid-skirt trend, sorry. I think it puts body proportions in imbalance.

  • AnneElliot

I hate the sweater, but I’ve had an aversion to writing on sweatshirts since the 1980s. Actually, I pretty much hate the whole look. Except the Hot Ginger.

  • lalahartma

I thought it was a PETA sweatshirt at first.

  • AmyLeigh

Am I the only one that thinks she should have had something else under that skirt? I mean she’s barely 17 and that thing is completely see through! Not to be a prude but yeesh….

  • RutGot

I love the skirt but hate the sweatshirt thing with it. I think she hates it too; look at her painfully uncomfortable body language.

  • Oh man, I never try to be personal, but I saw Chloe’s appearance on the Today Show, and she is so disarming and lovely that I can’t nit pick here; but, she has a beautiful energy, that I am surprised her body language is so self conscious here. I have to blame the outfit.

  • kim bunchalastnames

she looks terribly uncomfortable, though. that body language is all, “gods no!”

  • in a pickle

laundry day. I’m clearly a tasteless old but a sweatshirt with a satin skirt just says, ‘everything else was dirty and I’m not going to see anyone I know,’ to me.

  • elemspbee

though shoes may indeed not go with the ensemble, very cute on its own.
