Jon Hamm, Serving Up Hamm

Posted on March 01, 2012

Hey, who threw that Hamm at me?

Jon Hamm pole dances for the new season of “Mad Men” on “The Late Show With David Letterman.”

These aren’t very good shots from a fashion perspective (but they are excellent from a Hamm-viewing perspective), so we’ll refrain from too much fashion commentary except to say we love the look. Love a grey suit, love a striped shirt with tie, love brown shoes paired with a light suit.

And since he’s poledancing for the long-awaited return of Mad Men, this is as good a place as any to stick this in:

  • mommyca

OMG…. the light gray suit looks sooooo good on him! It’s gonna be a sweet month until the return of Mad Men to see him poledancing all over town…. 🙂

  • margaret meyers

    Mmmmmmm.  Haaaaaammmmmmmm.

  • Does this man ever look bad, even when he looks bad?  The answer is No. Not ever.  And that is not a teaser for the new season.  That’s a whole lot of “blah blah blah” with clips from last season.  Fine Matthew! We’ll just wait!

  • God he’s beautiful. I CANNOT WAIT. Two Sundays in a row: Mad Men March 25th, Game of Thrones April 1st. :O

    • Mo Mo

      More squeeeeees!

    • girliecue

Yes! Life truly does begin anew in the springtime…

  • The comments  ‘pole-dancing’ and ‘stick this in’…too great for words. So happy MM is coming back!

  • serenitynow02

    God I love Hamm.

  • Lilithcat

Yay!  Cannot wait!  And thank goodness AMC is going to do an immediate re-run, or I’d have to pop for a very expensive cab ride from the airport to get home in time!

  • I love that you just quoted a Fred Schneider and the Superions song. Nicely done! (How long have you been holding that opening in your collective back pocket?)

  • LaVonne Ellis

Anyone else notice Vincent Kartheiser’s receding hairline in the interviews? That indicates some passage of time, doesn’t it? Unless Vincent is really losing his hair.

    • Jessi03

Yes!  I hope it’s a passage of time thing, b/c that’s a lot of hair loss very quickly otherwise.  Although if THAT much time has passed, how old exactly is little Kieran Shipka supposed to be playing?  An 18 year old Sally Draper?

  • Jessie Bielicki

oh god! Vincent Kartheiser looks ridiculous in that video. So they’re making Pete bald, are they? That is so sad. I wanted to see Don and Pete stop using pomade as we moved on into the later sixties, but this is not the way I wanted it! Though VK looks so much younger without the slicked back hair, I wonder if that is a reason why they decided they’d rather Pete go the receding hairline route? I hope I get used to it when I watch the show, because I was caught somewhere between open-mouthed shock, disappointment, and laughter when I saw him in that video.

    • Jessica Rowe

What if his hairline is *actually* receding?  It’s been a while since it’s been on…

      • Jessie Bielicki

that would be tragic if it were the case. I thought it was fake in the video, but then I looked at recent pictures of him, and now I can’t tell!

        • manfann

when I noticed it, all I could think was ‘make it stop!’

          •  It’s fake.  Red carpet photos show the hair growing back.

          • manfann

            what a relief!

  • Stefanos Mantyla

Sorry, but Lady Gaga looks like Miss Piggy. One can say she is “getting away” with it (not pulling it off), but I do not think even that. That combo of make up and shades really sends a distinct whiff of Miss Piggy.

    • homespunner

Umm…You can mistake Jon Hamm for some others, but Lady Gaga is most definitely not one of them. I think you’re on the wrong post. 😉

      • Stefanos Mantyla

You’re right! God, how did I ever do that?

        • homespunner

You saw Hamm and thought Piggy.

  • Why so baggy around the crotch? Otherwise he looks fantastic!

    • kimmeister

That, plus the pants are a little too long.

    • lizajane1776

I am certain that they are not, but the fit on those trousers looks like they are pleated pants!
I think he’s wearing them too low and that bags them out, making the pants a little too long, like kimmeister said.

  • ChaCha_70

    Well helllloooooo sailor!

  • Guest

    Well helllloooooo sailor!

  • RzYoung

I live in the UK and evil Mr Murdoch bought Mad Men for Sky >:o(

I don’t know when I’ll get to see this series, fml

  • Dan_In_NYC

Maybe I’m alone on this, but not loving the suit on him. Perhaps it’s a lighting issue, but it makes him look washed out.  I do love those shoes, however, and the tie.  He could also use a little hair trim – but he is still a handsome handsome man.

    • Oh honey, no one’s looking at the suit anyways.

      • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

I know!  Like, why does TLo even pretend to try?

  • Judy_J

    I.  CAN’T.  WAIT.  So excited about the return of Mad Men!!!!!!

  • miagain

Oh no… is poor Pete Campbell losing his hair??

    • crackineggs

He is a dad now, so it’s all down hill for the hair folicles.  Speaking from personal experience.

  • SapphoPoet

He looks great–I love the grey with the brown shoes and the tie. The colors all seem really soft.

Okay, I’m going to go out on a limb, pretty much knowing all here may wish it cut it out from under me.  Let me preface this by saying that Jon Hamm is unquestionably a great-looking guy. Unquestionably. That being said, here’s the deal: I find DON DRAPER to be mind-blowingly sexy, but Jon Hamm? Meh. It’s like he was genetically designed to be slicked, and tailored, and confident, and sauve.  And when you see him in real life (even when dressed to the nines on the RC, though less so), he looks sweaty, and happy, and goofy, and eager, and there’s not a thing wrong with any of that! If he was a blind date I’d be thrilled. But I swear, that guy? I’m not even sure I would do a double-take on the street.

    Anyone feel me? Anyone? Bueller?

    • mhleta

      • Pants_are_a_must

*ball of twine, gentle wafting throughout main street*

    • I get exactly the same vibe!

    • Adriana_Paula

Yeah, I hate to say it, but I know what you mean.

    •  yep- I made a comment along these lines that the smiley Jon Hamm is so different from the broody Don Draper. Not bad different– it shows what a great actor he is, how startling it is to see him smile!

      • And he appears to be quite a funny guy in real life. Swoon.

        • dress_up_doll

Jon Hamm is a hoot! As much as I do adore Don Draper, I do loves me some Hamm. He is a true actor in the sense that he’s a bit of a chameleon and seems willing to go to great lengths for his art aka comedy (i.e., Jon Hamm doing the charleston in a flappers costume on SNL).

        • I still can’t help laughing about “Jon Hamm’s john’s ham” skit he did on SNL awhile ago. So ridiculous. I will publicly admit here that I love that kind of humor.

          • dress_up_doll

I actually thought of the “Jon Hamm’s john’s ham” skit as well. It was ridiculously funny. The writer’s of SNL must love it when he hosts. He’s so willing to do just about anything for them.

    • MK03

Nope, gotta disagree. I find him insanely hot in and out of Draper drag. In fact, the goofiness is a major draw for me. I adore a funny guy.

    • manfann

      i agree with carpediva

  • unbornfawn

    He looks good from here.

  • MK03

I feel like Veruca Salt. “I WANT IT NOW!!”

  • Ozski

March in New England is usually so depressing but this month I have so much Hamm to look forward to! MM premiere and ‘Friends with Kids’. He looks like another delicious bastard in that movie too. Can’t wait for both!

  • Terry Weyna

We missed this entire series when it was first broadcast, but on a whim started watching the DVDs a few months ago.  Just last night we watched the last episode in Season 4.  I’m glad I don’t have 1-1/2 years to wait to see Season 5!  And yet, I’ll bet I’m just as impatient to see what happens next as anyone who was watching all along.  (And yes, I went back and read every single post TLo put up about the series.  Great stuff.)

  • PeaceBang

I’ve never watched “Mad Men” (I know, I know — I tried, just didn’t get into it) but I fell in love with Hamm after seeing him in “Bridesmaids.” Any man who can cut it up like that with Kristin Wiig is sextacular, plus he’s just incredibly hot. Bring on the goofy Hamm. More comedy, please!

  • Pants_are_a_must

Jon Hamm will never wear underwear, and for that I love him.

But also because he’s Jon Hamm, you know.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

Any day that includes a Jon Hamm sighting is a good day-Damn, but he is fine!

    • Indeed. This is a fabulous day. It’s sunny, breezy and warm, and there are photos of Jon Hamm.

If I had someone to clean my  house, it would be a perfect day.

  • Andrea Weymouth

    hmmm Hamm pole dancing…..

  • aimee_parrott

EEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!  Only 24 days to go!

  • MilaXX

    Cannot wait!

  • I cannot comprehend smiley Jon Hamm. I’m so trained to see that face with the look of concentration, of annoyance or bowchickabow.

And I can’t wait to see what Matthew Weiner has created.

    •  my man and i were just commenting that don draper always seems to be saying “WTF?!” with his face. always!

  • EEKstl

Squeeeee – both Hamm and Mad Men’s return.  Just…SQUEEEEEE!

  • “It was really fun to be a part of”….WAS? Jon Hamm did not say “is” …….has he dropped some foreshadowing about Don?

    • charlotte

He was talking about the season…at least I took it that way.

  • Ugh this month can not go by fast enough!

  • crackineggs

So excited about the new season and equally excited to read TLo’s recaps.  I’m kind of dense about the subtleties in this show, but I get a whole new appreciation for what is going on artistically when I read the recaps.  (putting the fawning in unborn fawn)

  • Hey! This is sorta pimping out my publication, but we have an interview with Dan Bishop, the production designer for Mad Men. Of course no plot details revealed, but it’s interesting!

  • Glammie

Mad Men promos are so cruel–they want to give away *nothing.*  Nonetheless, after hunting about on the Web I found a pix of Jessica Pare in a coordinating dress/coat ensemble that’s way above her knee with light stockings–kind of refined mod.  Christina Hendricks seems to be wearing her hair *down* and January Jones is in the most amazingly godawful floral housecoat with little pom-poms on the sleeves.  It’s a look that not even Betty Draper can pull off.

I know they’re hiding Jones’ pregnancy, but this is serious frump–I’d say Betty’s on a downhill slide this season.  Pom-poms AND her slip is showing.

I’m thinking it’s 1967 or so, but maybe that’s because I want to see Janie Bryant get to the Summer of Love.

  • Why haven’t they released any new footage!!

  • granddelusion

Hes just gross. Put that thing away.

  • birdhead

You’re sure hamming it up with those puns. *rimshot*

Okay, I imagine that joke’s pretty dead now but hey.

  • afabulous50

Never understood the love for this guy..

  • GAH he looks fantastic.

And I’m SO DAMN EXCITED for the return of Mad Men.

  • duchessofjersey

Hearing Vincent Kartheiser speak naturally is great because it shows how important Pete Campbell’s diction is to his character. It reminded me of how Joanne Froggatt talked about turning her modern Yorkshire accent into a period one for Downton Abbey.

  • Lisa

He’s so freaking hot, I can’t stand it!  However – the crotch on the pants is all loose and bunchy.  But that’s okay – I’ll gladly smooth it out for him!  😉

  • Ever since *those* photos of Jon Hamm free-balling (you know which ones), I can’t help but peer closely at his crotch every time he takes a photo to try and determine whether he is wearing underwear.

  • andi56

Hmmm… I have a feeling this may be the season the show jumps the shark. But we’ll see. ; )

  • “The video you are trying to watch cannot be viewed from your current country or location”

    Pole-dancing, you say?

  • andi56

No, not THAT kind of poledancing! That’s an old expression we used to use in PR when celebritoids were out on the town doing their dog ‘n’ pony promo thing.

  • Jennifer Coleman

Oh gee. Thanks for getting me all twitchy and crackish this Friday afternoon. I couldn’t even listen to what they were saying in the video, because my mind was chanting ‘madmenmadmenmadnemmadmenmadmencomingbacksoooonthismonthyayyyyyy’

But V. Kartheiser’s going to be rocking a combover real soon, isn’t he?
