H&M Lookbook: Menswear Fall 2011 Collection

Posted on June 06, 2011

Having featured the H&M Womenswear lookbook several days ago, we are way behind on getting the boyclothes out there for discussion and/or the formation of shopping lists and the counting of pennies. Because we don’t know about you guys, but we love this collection. While it definitely skews toward the young and thin male, there are pieces in here that make good wardrobe basics for anyone. In addition, it’s a pretty damn chic collection coming from such a mainstream outlet. It’s a bit hard for us to imagine ourselves in sweaters and jackets on a day like today, but we’ve managed to fight over some of the pieces already. We’re total outerwear queens and a couple of those jackets look tasty. To be honest, there’s not much here we don’t like. It’s “classic with a twist” done well and sometimes, the pieces look so good, there’s no twist. Just really good-looking clothes. We’ll have to see what they look and feel like for real, but as lookbooks go, this one definitely did its job on us.

Bonus: cute model.

Nice! I like these looks a lot. Is it me or does the model have the longest torso known to man?

    • jason c

but that’s in right? (see: Andrew Garfield.)

      • MilaXX

        heh, I guess it is.

    • I was thinking that exact thing.  The proportions on this model just look off.  Perhaps I think that because, in comparison to a lot of people and for my height of 6’3″, I have a relatively short torso and crazy long legs.

  • Yaaaaaayyy!

I’m such a sucker for that grey ribbed sweater.

    • That sweater is lovely. I should think about finding a similar sweater to knit.

    • I want that sweater in the worst way.

  • As a knitter, that HUGE cowl totally caught my eye. Should I crank some out for winter? They are pretty easy to make. I like most of the jackets a lot, but the not the fit of the pants.

    • i thought the same thing! i was just going to post that i wish i had seen the full picture of that look. i just made a grey cowl for myself last winter and it is deliciously comfortable and warm 🙂 i think i might make a few more in other styles and colors. are you on ravelry?

      • I’m vhanna26 on Ravelry. The cowl makes me think of the Super Cupcake cowl from Chic Knits. May have to make that happen.

J’adore the tweed suit!! I love what they did with the lapels, silhouette and proportions.

need those riding gloves and the pants from the suit.

  • Oooh there are a lot of really great coats and jackets here.

Are we not wearing belts anymore???

  • Delaney Davis

    I want to nom him.

  • Why the coats now? It’s waay too hot to be wearing coats where I’m  (Arizona), but I’m still coveting some of them. I might buy them, store them in the closet, and make sure I don’t gain/lose weight until winter so that they can still fit.

  • I haven’t even been in an H&M in years-partly from going over the 40 and H&M is a young persons’ store.  However….these are really nice and I can see myself wearing some of these.  “With a twist” is a good description:  One won’t get laughed at for trying to be too young by wearing them, but there’s enough modernism and detail to make them look fresh and sharp.

Guys, you wouldn’t happen to offer your services as stylists? 😉  I could really use your help when I head up to NYC on Saturdays to shop (I’m in the Philly area as well).  I hit all the hot spots for shopping (Soho, Noho, etc)  but still come away with…….what everyone else has.  At least throw some of us longtime fans some shopping tips from time to time.  We would all be eternally grateful.   😀

Who ever thought Teddy Boy suits with pegged pants and velvet collars would stage a comeback, and yet it looks good.  But that waist band at the pelvis, crotch at the knees look?  ‘sgotta go.

    • I know, I don’t get that particular trend, either.  It’s all over the European retailer’s websites and in their stores but I hate it.  It’s….something only the really really young and lean and gangly can wear.  Personally, I work out and do lunges and squats for a reason-to make sure the back view looks nice.  Those pants, though…make everyone look like they wear depends.  Ugh.

Very nice collection. Esp. liking the tweed suit, outerwear and that grey ribbed sweater.

This is  nice collection. Hope some of those pants come in long. my 6’2″ 130 pound teenage son would look great in much of this. I’m in love with the blue windowpane plaid sport coat and the gray sweater/jacket with the epaulets..

  • Love that tan and gray jacket.  It’s pretty nice.

  • I am now trying to think of a way that i can wear a tailcoat in my everyday life without getting strange looks.

    • Anonymous

My life would be improved by seeing a man in a tailcoat more often.

Way above average as models go. The clothes are going to sell, if they’re not terribly made for the price, and there will be an influx of nicely dressed men into the general population. Who knew H&M might be up for a humanitarian award?

  • I love the suits

Very nice – I would wear many of these.  Still not crazy about the droopy crotch pants though.

    What a striking model!
