Our expectations for the Megalopolis promo tour are based entirely on the insane trailer for the film, which means we expect to see some super-cray fashion on the red carpet from all of its stars.
Adam Driver
All but one, that is. But let’s turn away from the terminally uninteresting and take in what his co-stars were serving at the Toronto International Film Festival premiere:
Grace Vanderwaal in Liam Wilson Mackenzie
This is insane and we hate and we also think it’s perfect. We contain multitudes, kittens. From a pure design perspective, the pseudo-panniers and boob roses are genuinely terrible. She looks like she has a pheasant stuffed down her top. It’s not pretty and it’s not chic, but it strikes the perfect tone for this film.
Nathalie Emmanuel in Archival Dolce & Gabbana
This look has a similar “fading aristocracy” vibe that makes it perfect for the occasion. Again, we’re not saying we like the design. Those tiers and ruffles are giving us furious eyelid-twitches. But she’s striking as hell in it and the look is both memorable and photogenic. Plus it’s always nice to see an archival piece on the red carpet.

ABOUT THE MOVIE:
MEGALOPOLIS is a Roman Epic fable set in an imagined Modern America. The City of New Rome must change, causing conflict between Cesar Catilina, a genius artist who seeks to leap into a utopian, idealistic future, and his opposition, Mayor Franklyn Cicero, who remains committed to a regressive status quo, perpetuating greed, special interests, and partisan warfare. Torn between them is socialite Julia Cicero, the mayor’s daughter, whose love for Cesar has divided her loyalties, forcing her to discover what she truly believes humanity deserves.
