Ladies, gentlemen and enby friends, Miss Andra Day, sliding in with two killer looks, just under the wire.
ALIÉTTE
As we mentioned in our earlier Carey Mulligan post, not every actress with an Oscar nomination hit the promo trail as hard as some of the others, which means Carey and Andra, for instance, weren’t going to get the “Ology” post treatment this year. It’s not that Miss Day doesn’t like to serve a lewk when she wants to – CLEARLY (see above) – but for a recording artist turned Oscar nominee with a history of some highly head-turning looks, it was a surprise to us how little of her we saw on the promo trail. It should be noted that both her Critics Choice and BAFTA awards ensembles were extremely focus-pulling ensembles in their own way and we wouldn’t claim she’s rejecting the red carpet or trying to downplay it the way Carey Mulligan or Olivia Colman might. But we also think it’s notable that she chose to go to the Essence Black Women in Hollywood Awards rather than the Independent Spirit Awards, which is the usual pre-Oscar nominee appearance.
Oh, by the way, she looks freaking STUNNING here. Talk about a screen goddess serve. Total movie star glamour.
CHANEL
Love this look just as much, even though it’s such a wild swing away from the usual nominee fare. It’s fashion-y and editorial, but still looks perfectly wearable on her. It’s got a real sense of drama. We wouldn’t normally love a skirt with that much fringe on it, but the whole look just sings on her. We’re glad she took the time to make a couple of purely flawless serves before Oscar night. Can’t wait to see what she does next.
