Relentless celebrity Jennifer Lopez has a new rom com out, which means she’s hitting every red carpet available to her in order to promote it. Say what you will about J Lo, but she’s as old school as it gets in terms of how she manages her stardom. For this latest round of promotional appearances, she worked two different styles, one of which she needs to embrace more and the other one she needs to retire.

Simple, glam, uncomplicated and unfussy. She really needs to lean into this style more because she can work it in her sleep and the returns have not diminished for her. We don’t think the gloves were needed, but we suppose they help complete the look. Those slides are always going to look too casual for gowns, to our eyes.

Girl, this looks exhausting. We hate to be ageist about this, because we recently made the same point about Demi Moore’s style, but there comes a point when all of the work you’re doing to show that you’ve still got it becomes the entire point of a look. It’s like watching someone execute a technically correct but deadly boring tapdance routine; all you can see is the effort. This just looks overwrought to us, and she looks completely miserable in it. Granted that may have more to do with her makeup, which seems inexplicably devised to make her look like she’s been crying for an hour.
