We said last week that we thought our coverage of Cannes jury member Demi Moore might devolve into constant refrains for a hair refresh, and we like to think that she chose this dress in response to our bitching.

A clever ploy, Ms. Moore, but we will not be distracted. Yes, yes. Of course we’re being delusional and this dress was chosen a month ago at least. You don’t fly a frock like this to the Riviera unless you’ve already marked the date you’re going to wear it on your calendar. But still, if you wanted to shut us up about the need for a tresses rethink, we will not be dissuaded, especially since her recent preference for unusual shapes has only made the observation about her hair more acute. Down-the-back, pin-straight pitch black hair is very dramatic with sleek gowns, but literally gets in the way of anything with a shape to it. We give her credit for adding soft waves this time, which do make a sizable difference. But at the very least, wearing it back if not up would be called for with this kind of mecha-Cinderella gown. As for the dress itself, it’s not sophisticated, but it’s fun and you can’t deny the impact of it. We’ll always hate bows in fashion, but this feels like a pseudo-punk take on the idea and we kinda dig it.
