Cannes Film Festival jury member Demi Moore closed out her stylish tour of duty with an eye-popping custom Balenciaga look for the festival’s closing ceremony and we just have one thing to say in response.

Girl, you need to calm down. Or, put more accurately, Brad Goreski, your stylist, needs to calm down. To be fair, we don’t think any star, especially one of Demi’s stature, ever gets talked into wearing things they don’t want to wear by their stylists. That tends to be one of the more common misunderstandings as to how that professional relationship works. All of the best stylists make style plans for their clients, but they can’t dictate to them. Still, we feel like Brad has influenced Demi into adopting a style direction that we wish she’d abandon. There’s nothing wrong with grandiosity in style, but an outfit like this one feels like some sort of display piece rather than a wearable look; like everything needs to be tucked and secured in place and she needs to pose just so in order for it all to work. The overall impression from Demi’s red carpet style is that it looks exhausting and punishing. Think of someone like Jane Fonda, who’s an entire generation older than Demi but always hits the red carpet looking effortlessly glamorous. Anyway, the gown is fine. The wrap and the opera gloves are way too much with it. The hair, as always, doesn’t work with anything but a column gown. She’s in desperate need of a total style overhaul.
