The stars of The Bride! joined director Maggie Gyllenhaal at the New York premiere, where color was apparently forbidden from making an appearance. Fortunately, Jessie Buckley, free from Oscar campaigning for a moment, returned to her wilder ways.

That skirt is hideous and we love it — but only because we’re happy to see she hasn’t completely abandoned her own preferences for weird shit. He’s doing the bare minimum. It’s fine, but not worthy of further commentary.

She knows her style lane. It’s always going to be these ’40s-retro gowns, but she’s good about not being too literal in her choices and making sure she’s not stepping out in the same look over and over again. Love the sleeve detail.
Peter Sarsgaard

This isn’t his style at all and it shows. This suit looks depressed.
Annette Bening

Simple and dignified. She looks great, and we can understand if flash isn’t her thing, but she recedes too much. At the very least, a contrasting blouse or a more prominent brooch would’ve helped her stand out.
Julianne Hough

This is very hot, with a beautiful drape to it. She looks amazing.
John Magaro

An attempt was made.
Jake Gyllenhaal

It looks great on him, although we’re not fans of gray suits on red carpets. We’re also not fans of knit ties and we think this one clashes a little.

We love how much Jessie stands out in these shots. Like we said, the skirt’s ugly, but it was an excellent choice nonetheless.

ABOUT THE MOVIE:
From Maggie Gyllenhaal (Academy Award-nominated writer/director of The Lost Daughter) and starring Academy Award nominee Jessie Buckley and Academy Award winner Christian Bale comes THE BRIDE! A bold, iconoclastic take on one of the world’s most compelling stories.
A lonely Frankenstein (Bale) travels to 1930s Chicago to ask groundbreaking scientist Dr. Euphronious (five-time Oscar nominee Annette Bening) to create a companion for him. The two revive a murdered young woman and The Bride (Buckley) is born. What ensues is beyond what either of them imagined: Murder! Possession! A wild and radical cultural movement! And outlaw lovers in a wild and combustible romance!
