Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney appear on GOOD HOUSEKEEPING’s December Digital cover. The stars of the new movie THE HOUSEMAID, in theaters December 19th, open up to GOOD HOUSEKEEPING about their instant bond, crocheting on set, and the chores they despise.

On what attracted them to The Housemaid:
Sydney: I’ve always been a fan of psychological thrillers, along with characters that are in psychological thrillers. It’s always interesting for the audience not to be able to trust a character. And as an actor, you have to find different levels of performance for when the character is telling the truth and when they’re not.
Amanda: I think for me, I’ve never done anything like this before. I’ve never played a character that was playing so many characters.
How they bonded behind the scenes:
Amanda: We vented a lot!
Sydney: Yeah, we vented a bunch. She crocheted me a little purse!
Amanda: I parked and just crocheted the whole time.
Sydney: And I literally have a photo of Amanda and me, a little Polaroid in the back of my phone, that I still haven’t taken out.
Amanda: I know—it’s so nice!
How Amanda and Sydney’s friendship helped ease filming intense scenes:
Sydney: I felt like we both knew our characters really well, and then we just played in the scenes together. I think [director] Paul Feig did such an amazing job cutting it all together to show the audience Millie and Nina. There was so much we had that you don’t see, because there were so many different takes. But we would just play and play and play, and every single time it was different.
Amanda: I also feel like it’s somewhere where we’re kind of protective of one another, and we’re two people who want the same thing, and we know how lucky we are to have these jobs. We get to do this together, and [our bond] was not even something we needed to discuss.
What Amanda and Sydney hope fans take away from watching The Housemaid:
Sydney: It’s so hard, because if you say what you hope they take away, I’m afraid it gives away the twist!
Amanda: This movie is insanely exciting, and it’s really funny in ways you do not expect it to be funny … It is a thriller, sure. But it’s like one that hasn’t been done in a long, long time … It’s truly satisfying.
What household chore would you prefer someone else do for you?
Amanda: Dishes. I don’t like taking the dishes out of the dishwasher.
Sydney: Cleaning the kitchen.
What is the messiest room in your house right now?
Sydney: My closet. I always say my closet is a metaphor for my brain, and if my closet’s a mess, then my brain is all disheveled. And if the closet is clean, that means I’m orderly.
Amanda: I think mine is my bedroom, and it’s all my fault … and my husband [Thomas Sadoski]’s! There are just clothes everywhere — I just can’t.
What is your favorite social media cleaning hack?
Sydney: I’m addicted to watching carpet cleaning ASMR videos. I haven’t learned any hacks, but I will just lay there and it just calms my brain. It’s like the most insanely dirty rugs you’ll ever see, and they’re usually in this person’s garage, and everyone’s wearing like a hazmat suit, and there’s huge machines and …
Amanda: And the stains go away!
Of three cleaning-obsessed fictional characters, who would you prefer to clean your house—Niles from The Nanny, Alice from The Brady Bunch, or Danny Tanner from Full House?
Amanda: Oh, the first one (Niles from The Nanny). He must be fun!
Sydney: I would choose Danny.
Amanda: In the show, Danny was really busy. Man, I love that guy.
Sydney: He was really busy!
