The stars came out in some funky-to-dreary looks at the British Independent Film Awards. Let’s assess!
Andrea Riseborough in Fendi

Works for us, but it could have used a pendant and we feel like wearing the hair up or back would have been better.
Carey Mulligan in Prada

It really says something about an event when Carey Mulligan shows up in the most interesting outfit of the night. Not that this is particularly fascinating on the merits, but the design is interesting. The champagne color does nothing for her, though.
Emily Watson in Roksanda

Emily, you should never believe a person who would tell you that you look good in yellow satin. You must cut them out of your life completely. They don’t love you. In related news, we don’t love those shoes.
Genevieve O’Reilly in Niccolò Pasqualetti

Well, it’s not boring. We’ll give it that. It does, however, look like she’s got it on backwards.
Harris Dickinson in Paul Smith

Acceptable but dull.
Harry Melling (in Brioni) and Alexander Skarsgård (in Valentino)

Harry Melling took our advice to start dressing like a hottie. He looks great but we’d have liked some contrast in the look somewhere.

Love the tailoring, love the color, love the sassy little shoes. Less in love with the neckwear but it’s certainly not a dealbreaker.
Joseph Quinn in Valentino

Just a walking pile of “meh.” If you’re going to get dressed up for pictures, why would you pick such an unphotogenic look?
Paul Mescal in Vivienne Westwood

The shirt is terrible as is the hair.
Ruth Wilson in JW Anderson

The incredible shrinking woman.
Sam Claflin

Looks like a pretty decent suit, although the colors don’t photograph well and the pose sure isn’t helping. Get your hands out of your pockets, sir.
