Cannes Film Festival 2025 Style File: Halle Berry in Gucci, Chanel Couture, and Gaurav Gupta Couture

Cannes jury member Halle Berry has had her share of fashion wobbles of late. Although it’s more accurate to say she’s had her share overall. If someone asked us to list the most beautiful women with the worst red carpet instincts, she’d definitely be in the top five. She’s operating on one of the lowest possible difficulty settings but we don’t think she gets the look right even half the time she steps out. The good news? When she gets it right, like her legendary Oscar dress, the results are spectacular. Of course that does tend to raise the question of why she gets it wrong so often, but sometimes, you’ve just got to refrain from look a gift diva turn in the mouth. So to speak. Anyway, here are three instances this week where she managed to crush it, in our opinion.

IN GUCCI AT THE KERINNG ‘WOMEN IN MOTION’ DINNER

Simple glam is always going to be her sweet spot. You hand a dress like this to Halle Berry and it would be nearly impossible for her to get it wrong. A no-brainer. Maybe not exciting, but gorgeous.

The thing is, she’s clearly got a goofy/whimsical/boho side and we’ve always assumed it’s her main preference. But these kinds of looks are harder to pull off and she just doesn’t have a great record in this arena. We suspect a lot of you will disagree here, but we absolutely love this. It’s recognizably Chanel, but with a lightness and whimsicality, not to mention a slightly funky vibe. She looks really cute.

We’ll give her credit for something we never noticed until now: she knows her colors. While we’ve always had notes on the styles and styling she prefers, we can’t often remember seeing her in colors that do nothing for her, which is literally the Number One red carpet mistake, even among the leading fashionistas. She sports rich, reddish browns like these a lot, and for obvious reasons. This is almost certainly the Gupta gown she was referring to when she said she had to make some changes after the dress code rules were revised. She shouldn’t have worried about it. Plenty of much bigger trains have climbed those stairs this week.
