Oh, we love ourselves a little salt-and-pepper shaker moment on the red carpet, don’t we, folks? Splitsville co-stars Adria Arjona and Dakota Johnson did the ultimate Pretty Girl flex by showing up to the Cannes photo call in looks even Angelina would call a little on the basic side.

We’re not mad about it. They actually look very cute together and the dresses tend to play well off each other. Adria’s is the more interesting, of course. Yes, it strikes us as a bit elaborate for the setting, but there’s a lightness to the textile that gives it a pseudo-beachy feel. We think the design could benefit from a little bit of editing in terms of all that stuff going on at the waist and hip. Without reading too much into it, Adria’s dress kind of benefits from Dakota’s being so generic. It looks good on her and we don’t at all mind the simplicity of it for the setting. The braid is cute. But Dakota’s the bigger star here, so there’s a certain smartness about Adria’s focus-pulling or a certain grace about Dakota’s lack of attention-seeking. Or it’s all a coincidence. Either way, like we said, the dresses play well and they look cute.
