The great thing about Queen Maxima is that she acts like she gets a huge kick out of just being a queen and doing things like christening ships, which she did this morning in Rotterdam for the Sea Ranger Service, which offers maritime training, employment and coaching opportunities to disadvantaged young people in coastal areas.

Look at her! She thinks this is a total hoot! Or maybe she’s just very good at acting like she does, which is no less a point in her favor. We once got into a lot of trouble on the former Twitter for noting that Princess Catherine is very good at her job, because she almost always ensures that she’s smiling and friendly in all situations and pictures. A bunch of royal fans got mad at the suggestion that her job consists of smiling or that her smiling may not be entirely genuine, but we don’t even know what to say to that. They’re literal figureheads. Of course their jobs consist of imagecraft. Anyway, this figurehead also loves wacky hats, over-matching, and at the moment, feathers, unfortunately. We love that she has a… less restrained sense of style than other European royals, but we’ll be blunt and note that this is easily the ugliest thing we’ve ever seen a royal wear. There’s no saving that hideous upholstery.
