Auntie Whoopi and Auntie Oprah are here to explain it all to you.
The two former co-stars of The Color Purple came to the Oscars to pay tribute to Quincy Jones, to upset the order of things, and to slay – not necessarily in that order. We just think it’s interesting. If you said “Whoopi and Oprah at the Oscars in a ball gown and tuxedo,” we’d have assumed each was wearing the other one’s outfits. In fact, this is so unexpected from both of them that we wonder how much it was planned to be so. Certainly, Whoopi has worn her share of massive ballgowns. In fact, it’s her go-to style for almost any formal event and has been for decades. And it’s not like Oprah has avoided wearing pantsuits or other menswear-adjacent styles in her career. We’re not all that crazy about the gown. The textile and color are doing all of the heavy lifting, but the design is extremely stale. Oprah’s look is pretty sharp, but the jacket looks too short.
