When we found out that Amanda Seyfried was playing a Philadelphia cop named Mickey Fitzpatrick in her Peacock limited series Long Bright River, we laughed long and hard in our Philly Boy accents. Luv huh, but we don’t think we’d ever find her believable in a role like that. Then again, before Mare of Easttown, we’d never have believed that Kate Winslet would do the most convincing Philly-adjacent accent ever committed to film. Anyway, maybe part of the reason we find it hard to accept her as a Philly cop is that she came to the Seth Meyers show dressed like a legal secretary in 1989.
It’s a cute dress, which you can see a bit better in the look book shot and the video, but wow is it ever giving Working Girl vibes. But as we always remind folks, fashion is cyclical and forty years doesn’t strike us as too short a cycle. She was a toddler when this was last in style and she’s going to be forty this year, so it’s fresh to her. We admit that we struggle with the boots. While a pair of heels might have made this too referential and literal, we don’t actually think those boots go with it.
