Gugu Mbatha-Raw came to the season 2 photo call for Surface and we don’t even know what that is, but she wore a pretty interesting Erdem dress for the occasion.
We are… intrigued. We should say from the start that whatever issues we might have with the design are mitigated by the fact of its wearer. She’s just really well suited to a pretty, slightly romantic, super-modern styles. Having said that, we tend not to love dresses designed to look like wads of wrinkled paper. The color does quite a bit to play down the effect. The embroidery is unusual and eye-catching. But our main gripe with this design is the shape of it. That neckline is terrible and we can’t help thinking how much the look would be improved by the addition of a thin belt. But it’s definitely a discussable dress, for which we are grateful, and we’re kind of curious what the rest of y’all think of it.
