We gave Colman Domingo his own spotlight post because … honestly, do we really have to explain why? But it’s time for all of the lesser men to line up and show us their best efforts at being fabulous for the Critics Choice Awards.
Adrien Brody in Dior Homme
We still appreciate a classic midnight blue tux. They were in vogue about a decade ago but we don’t see them as much as we used to.
Aldis Hodge in Louis Vuitton
Extremely hot. We would have rec’d a gold chain. The pecs demand it.
Andrew Scott in Brioni
Yet another in an endless line of ill-considered outfits. He’s always sporting the wrong styles and colors for him. Those clown shoes look silly.
Bowen Yang in Valentino
The suit is fabulous, but we don’t like the cream/tan accents. Black shoes and a black shirt would’ve made this pop more.
Brandon Wilson
The suit and shoes are really nice, but the shirt brings the whole look down.
Chase Stokes in Dsquared2
It’s been a minute since we’ve seen a guy in a slightly snug suit. We know we should be suggesting that he let the jacket out a little, but it’s honestly kind of refreshing to see in a year where every guy is wearing a suit several sizes too large.
Chris Perfetti in Connor McKnight
This is great. No notes.
Colin Farrell
Matching the pants to the shirt just makes it look like he’s wearing a sportscoat over a jumpsuit. A cream colored shirt would finish this look off nicely.
David Harbour
It’s fine. Low effort, but fine. His grooming’s on point for once, which is how you can tell his wife just left him.
Edgar Ramirez in Saint Laurent
We’re amazed at how consistently he manages to make himself look terrible. We have to assume he doesn’t have a stylist because the posing and the finishing on his outfits are always awful.
Ethan Slater in Emporio Armani
Another one avoiding the oversized suit. We approve. We usually default to white dress shirts in our advice for formalwear, but we think this might pop more with a black one.
Ewan McGregor
Love the shoes. Not loving the trend for wearing tuxedos without dress shirts.
Hiroyuki Sanada in Giorgio Armani
Impeccable, with a great color sense.
Jeff Goldblum
Always on point, but – we’re surprised to have to say this – he should shave his neck. Remember the T Lo rule for men’s grooming: When the whiskers go white, you gotta keep that shit tight.
Jesse Eisenberg in Dior Homme
Meh. Go stand with Ewan McGregor in the boring section.
Lamorne Morris in Giorgio Armani
We wish the pants matched the jacket, but this is a pretty great look, even if we do think tuxedo jackets call for dress shirts.
Logan Lerman in Thom Browne
Great color, but he looks like a gay first-year associate (because the straight ones would all be in basic blue).
Matt Bomer in Berlutti
Fabulous. Our only quibble is that the boots look a little worn.
Michael Urie in Georges Hobeika
We’re all for goofy gay dandyness, but the design of the jacket looks silly to us.
Orlando Bloom in Fendi
Monochromatic men’s suits are apparently the hottest trend of the moment. He looks fine.
Rufus Sewell in Dolce & Gabbana
Man, the guys really don’t want to wear bow ties anymore, do they? He looks great, though. Love those oversized lapels on him.
Takehiro Hira in Dolce & Gabbana
The jacket is gorgeous. We’d have liked this more if the pants matched the jacket and the turtleneck were black.
